A paragraph which I consider defining the current civilization paradigm of thinking: "The ether which we will suppose surrounds and penetrate all substances ans space is invisible, odorless, and practically weightless. According to scientists who proposed the idea, the ether exists both in a vacuum and in solid materials."

The intrinsic reality of facts is exactly vice-verso. Working hypotheses wrong-founded, the same their results! The same further development of thinking of an entire civilization!

From 1914 version of the same book, things are not so categorical. They use the word imaginary in double quotes. Of course, this one was printed before Einstein published its stupid General Theory of Relativity.

The only thing i would consider wrong is the statement that the aether is penetrating all substances. My opinion is that metals and alloys penetrate the aether.

Its ok in the actual thinking paradigm. Is the general way of thinking, cultivated and promoted from birth yet! But someone have to think why they used the word imaginary in double quotes before 1915! Also would be great to think about the meaning of the words "penetrate", "ether" and "substance". Which define which and in what conditions, in what way of thinking? Which is the sense of these words in the current empty space paradigm, and which could be the sense of them in an all pervading, filling and modeling ether? From which mental concept they arise? What mental image shape all these? Belongs these concepts to conscious mind or to subconscious one?

Just few of the questions someone should ask rhetorically, to deepen the aspect of ether and our own relation to it, and of course, to deepen further the so called external reality as we see, understand and permanently shape it! A long, long way to understand the so called electric current, from the current well established blablabla phenomena called electric current, which is the brick foundation on which is grounded the current civilization.

To sense a local phenomena and trying to describe it with your own words and mental concepts, and further to reproduce its effects and declare that there is nothing more to reveal about this phenomenon, it is a great great arrogance! To shorten this monologue, everything is reduced to premises and their subsequent effects. As premises, so the effects! The actual world is just a model from many, many others possible, shaped permanently but consciously by all that understand this deep truth, and unfortunately unconsciously by those who more believe in formers than they really understand them!

Just my thoughts... nothing more!
