What has happened to the world I live in? Where is the compassion of my fellow citizens that made me proud to be an American? We appear so divided. Rich against poor. Race against race. Politics against politics. Religion against religion. Old Glory is being shredded by this harsh game of tug of war. We live in a time that any bit of information is at our fingertips. Mass communication with just a few taps on a keyboard or a screen. So much potential is being wasted. Who will be the next American Idol, or what will happen on the Jersey Shore or can I create the next viral blip? Where are the people like me? The ones that could care less about the things that are worthless. People that would rather make a difference rather than an impact. Where are our leaders? The MLK’s or JFK’s that stand up for us and who would also stand with us. I keep faith that the almighty Creator knows what he is doing. I know I can’t be alone in this world of mindless, careless people. I hold hope because I know you too are out there wondering these same things.
Most people on online sicken me. So many people appear to walk proudly these days online. What happened to the art of being humble? Hear a person out before you try to destroy them! Try to feel what they feel. If you have never been poor. If you have never been black. If you have never been white. If you have never had my problems, don’t be so proud as to think you know the solution, because you don’t. Life is already complicated and now we must navigate through the bad advice of millions just to find a single true voice of reason. It seems like everyone is either a gun toting hunter or a gun toting thug. Either a tree hugger or a lumberjack. A cat person or a dog person. Real life isn’t like Facebook! More than half the stuff on there isn’t real. Why do people believe it is? Why do they spout off this misinformation as the gospel? Please take two seconds to think “could this not be true?” Take two seconds and type it into Google for Pete’s sake! Above all, STOP SHARING HATE!
The worship of the dollar sickens me. How can the leaders of the greatest nation in the world allow their fellow citizens to be walked on every day by greed? The amount of poor people in America grows every year, the opposite for the amount of rich. Sooner than later almost everyone will be on welfare, like a bad game of Monopoly, your big brother keeps giving you a few bills to keep the game going while you have no chance of winning. Worker unions used to be the checks and balances of capitalism, without them America is doomed to topple again from the weight at the top. Of course raising minimum wage is a temporary fix. The real problem is lack of jobs. The blue collar family that was just getting by a few years ago has lost their jobs to young people with college degrees. So now they can’t find a job and now they are on welfare. So now the man cooking your Big Mac has a college degree but no job to utilize it and a bill for his college tuition for a degree that is worthless. The great recession shook off millions of workers by scaring people to work longer and harder than ever before. People are connected to their jobs nearly 24/7 via technology. Those that didn’t get laid off are now doing their old jobs plus the work of a few that were laid off. To compound the problem for the college grad, some of the jobs are now overseas. Some haven’t opened up because the baby boomers won’t retire. The baby boomers won’t retire because all their pensions have been taken from them from corporate greed and lack of unionized jobs. There aren’t any unionized jobs because American workers are being divided and conquered more easily today than ever before. The great recession had some winners though. Surprisingly corporate America couldn’t be better off, as the NYSE hits new record highs.
It’s all a vicious circle. I know you see it too. But what can be done about it? Stop letting things divide us. Talk to people. Change America from the bottom, up. It starts with you right now.
