  • Fun Movie(S)

I watched a movie recently that was interesting and profound, expecially after hanging out with ya'll on this forum... Its called "THE NINES" ...Its slow and mysterious and strange/simple-just to let you know. Its really three short movies with the same actors. By the third one it really got interesting and puzzeling then with a twist it all made sense in an energetic forum sort of way....I hadnt heard of it before (video only release?) so i figured Id plug it...OH! and there is a short in the extras that is hillarious...a must see!! its called "god" . Ten minutes of Joy!

Thennnn...of the more popular theres STARDUST (a quest to find a fallen star with pretty-ugly witches, peasants in love, kings sons vying for the throne, Lightning catcher sky pirates, and goatpeople! )
Annnnd of course The GOLDEN COMPASS ...( for me, a profound metaphore of childhood and education and Spirit guides ect.....Lots of talking animals but not too cheesy...a good balance with humans. A bit gratuitus with the violence a couple times-a bit detailed with CGI polar bears fighting-"now really did we need to see that?" not good for the little ones probably??? ...a bit of lion witch and wardrobe with a dash of the matrix and a sprig of harry p with a frodo chaser ....Id say the best visuals since the lord of the rings!

Both were very Britishy if not really British and old worldly. Myth, symbols and Archtypes galore!!!!

"The Nines" sounds like something I could get into. I like qwerky, off-the-wall type of flicks. I will see if it is available from Netflix.

    Thanks for the suggestion Blake

      Qwerky

The short extra is definately off the wall qwerky!! The nines is more kinda..."whats the story here???" strange like plopping down in the middle of something and having to try and put together all the pieces. It seems simple and slow but it gets much bigger as it goes...The pay off for me was BIG in the end. Its a first time director....and...the lead actor is...how do you say...very easy on the eyes .

Some of my other favorite qwerky movies are "Amalie"-a french movie and "Elling" also foreign-Norwegian. They are adorable and hilarious. and "I huckabees" is my qwerky quantum favorite. Just incase you havent seen those.

I love foreign language films. One of my all-time favorite movies is "Babette's Feast." "Amalie" is another I have been wanting to see.

Great news! Netflix has "The Nines." I just ordered it for the weekend along with "Disturbia" which I hear is also good.

Thanks for posting about 'The Nines' Blake, I'll have to check it out!

Pammie: I love foreign films as well, please do get 'Amelie'...you'll love it! If you like Kafkaesque type films check out 'Karakter'...along those lines is 'Dark City' as well. Just bizarre but then again....

              OOOh!

That just reminded me of "CITY OF LOST CHILDREN"...also foreign and Sooo WieRd! a good wierd, but a bit dark. If i remember right a friend told me it was actually directed by the same guy that did "Amalie"...It predates Amalie by 10 years? I had no idea... Its got that qwerky humor too and mysterious...

I havent seen those others, thanks. I'll have to check them out.

                  movies

LOL, I almost posted about city of lost children yesterday when I saw reference to Amalie.

This is not one of my favorite movies...just interesting movie I watched recently. Man from Earth. I movie which is pretty much just a conversation...what or who he turns out to be in the end is interesting but a few of the things he says is historically inaccurate but is a different perspective.

Has anyone seen Primer? About someone making a time machine. Slow going movie but I love the subject matter.

For quick laughs I recommend The Office and/or 30 Rock episodes.

These can be found in youtubes, etc. but also online with the network.

For quirky movies, I like Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

                        Lady In The Water

I seem to remember bursting into laughter a bunch with this movie but I dont think its a comedy perse. It has toung and cheek moments expecially making off hand comentaries about writing or movies within the movie. I loved the premis of "regular folk" not being so regular. Theres definatey a metaphysical/magical theme to it. It seems sort of billed to be a horror movie so I didnt go see it...then when it was in video... syncronicities around the title came up for me so I rented it. I might just get it again now that ya'll reminded me of it. It wasnt what I expected..it was also qwerky...and with much hope. I think many here would enjoy it.

And in the TV realm I rented the first season of Arrested Developmant and Laughed SOOOO much. Talk about strange humor and toung in cheek! Very original, I thought..back then! Kind of mockumentary ish...Oh! well that brings up This is Spinal tap, Waiting for guffman, Best in Show, and A Mighty wind! the Mocumentary originals!!! A hoot!

I've really been digging the new tv show Eli Stone. You can watch it at abc.com.

Here's a youtube someone made of clips from it to give you an idea :
