Hi Everyone
I've been wanting to post about this here for some time now because, considering Laughter is such an Amazing benefit for our bodies and minds, I wanted to share this with you....
Here in Gloucester in the UK, there is a rather bizaar ancient tradition of, once a year, in May, chasing a wheel of Double Gloucester Cheese down an incredibly steep slope at the top of a hill! The person who reaches the bottom of the slope first, wins the cheese!
There is a rugby team at the bottom to catch those who can't stop (most of them ).
According to Wikipedia, "Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling has been summarised as "twenty young men chase a cheese off a cliff and tumble 200 yards to the bottom, where they are scraped up by paramedics and packed off to hospital".
They also have a children's race for under 12's - but thankfully, this is run UPHILL!
My sister and her partner live on Cooper's Hill, right at the foot of the Cheese Rolling Slope, and on the Cheese Rolling weekend in May, thousands of people (people come from all over the world!) swarm over the hill to watch, and to enter the races.
This year was the first time we'd seen the Cheese Rolling. My sister and her partner had a party, so we could all watch the Cheese Rolling from the comfort of their garden. They have a view of the slope from the end of their garden, so we didn't need to struggle through the crowds.
It was a great party, and after the crowds had left, my son (12 years old) decided it would be fun to ROLL down the slope in the mud - he came back looking like he'd been dipped in one of those chocolate fountains!!
Here's the footage of this year's contest - well worth watching lol
