Does anyone else here juice vegetables?

I am transitioning from a Champion juicer to a Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor (super duper whomper, I juice ALOT!) and I would like to know if there are any other people like me out there?

Some years ago, my wife was experiencing pretty severe acid reflux and in consulting our doctor we found that many traditional doctors seem to favor some surgery or one drug to counter the acid and another to offset the side effects of the first drug and so on. The pharmaceutical industry and AMA hard at work...

After some introspection and investigation we decided to take a hard look at our diet and work to see if we couldn't implement a change holistically.

    So we did!
Using The pH Miracle & other cookbooks by Shelley & Robert Young we purchased a Champion Juicer and implemented (alot) more fiber and greens into our lives as well as an alkaline water.

Her acid reflux has gone only to return if she's naughty for awhile with her sugar and fats intake and it has also had a beneficial effect on weight loss and energy. Frankly, on self esteem too because who doesn't feel better about themselves when they eat greens over that cookie or sugary treat?
We eat better overall and for the most part avoid eating poorly on a regular basis.

I juice carrots (not too many, they are sugary), kale, cucumbers, green peppers, lettuce, onions, garlic, tomatoes, wheat grass and a secret ingredient or three and make a 1-2 gallons of green drink for a couple of days. It actually loses nutritional value the longer it sits but man I just don't have the time to juice every 10 hours or so. Know what I mean?

Is there anyone else here like me?

    fellow juicer...

I am a fellow juicer. Apple, carrots, celery, beet (for liver), ginger, Romaine lettuce (when I grow my own wheat grass I wrap the wheat grass with the lettuce leaf) because I don't have a wheat grass juicer. I was mixing the juice with my powered spiralina, 1 t. of ground cinnamon, one banana, and 1 T. of unrefined coconut oil but gained 10 lbs. Now there is no coconut oil and banana, though it sure tasted good. Now I'm also making Rejuvenix (a name given for a a drink made by using 1 cup of soft wheat berries to 3 c. of distilled water, placed in a glass jar and set aside (covered with cheese cloth) for 48 hours to ferment. After 48 hours you drain the liquid into another glass and store in the refrigerator and drink one glass a day. To the drained wheat add more water and let stand only 24 hours and then drain to drink. The drink is great for adding very healthy bacteria to your intestinal flora and will help keep your intestines doing their job with great effeciency...3-4 times a day, depending on your diet (enough water and fiber). 2-3 T. of ground flax seed a day gives a person an easy way to get their fiber and can be put in smoothies, soups, healthy cookies, breads, etc.
As for the left over wheat berries, plant them in a container of soil and they will grow and you can have your own wheat grass juice.

      juice fan

About 3 months ago I bought a Vita Mix 5000. I love it. I dont like plain veggie juice so I hide some spinache or cabbage or broccli? in my berry smoothies. If I get the amounts just right I cant tell I'm getting veggies. http://www.paths-home.com/start/introletter.php

We were juicing quite regularly last year, but have lapsed over the past 6 months (medical emergencies, move, etc). We have the Champion Juicer and then we put the pulp through a heavy duty press. It is a lot of work to keep up on a regular basis - but is so damn good! We were juicing romaine, green leaf, red leaf, endive, red cabbage and apple (seems like I am forgetting something...) in one batch and carrots and apples in another batch. This protocol was from the Gerson Therapy. It was mostly for cleansing and blood building, but helped with weight loss as well (the better quality food you ingest, the less food you actually need...). We are just getting back into it - ever so slowly.

Ingram - let us know how you like your new whomper stomper.
        Blessings on the journey, Glenn

          vitamixer

I've had a vitamixer for about 10 years. I'm not very talented with the concoctions but it works great!

But of course the vitamixer doesn't separate the pulp from the juice.

            Yay! Fellow juicers

Hi & thanks for the replies, I'm picking up a few good ideas from your suggested ingredients! Especially the wheat grass idea. I was growing my own for a while but if I can can double the beneficial output by extracting a drinkable product prior to germinating the seed, why not? How do the soft wheat berries stack up as to price and availability?

Mali if it works for you, I say go with it! Try some beet juice with the veggies, it's very sweet. A little goes a long way though.

Glenn how does the blade wear on your champion do? With a new blade, mine cuts very well at first but rapidly dulled and the pulp would build up on the screen and not eject properly. I had to chop all the material with a food processor prior to feeding it into the juicer. That's kind of why I went with this other juicer configuration.

The Vita mixer looks kind of like a blender. Do you press or strain the pulp after cutting?

                juicing answers...

I bought the soft wheat berries at Bob's Red Mill store here in Milwaukie, Ore.
I buy in bulk and I'll be buying more soon and can give you a price per pound.
I forgot to mention I also put in 1 t. of bulk lethicin (for the brain) and 1 t. of bulk ground milk thistle (for the liver) in my juices or spiralina smoothies..
The more raw foods in a persons diet (that includes beets) the more nutritious. Cooking anything over 104 degrees destroys the enzymes You still retain a few of the nutrients but not as many as raw. I wish I had known all this stuff when I raising my children. They may have chosen healthier life styles.

                  Hi!

The juicer came in about 30 minutes ago & here I sit enjoying a glass of vegetable juice. This sucker is fast! I'll have to experiment with it a bit but I like it so far

Mark, use raw beets, it's a great sweetener.

Hey rhozzi, I'd appreciate that, thanks! We've introduced a lot of fresh foods & I like juicing for that really because I can ingest a lot of vegetables without having to chew them all

                    raw soup.....

I found a way to have a great tasting raw soup that gives you lots of veggies but you don't have to chew them and taste them but gives you all the nutrients and enzymes and fiber. It's a matter of putting the veggies through a blender and just barely warming the soup up. I was eating a bowl of this soup every day for months. I would usually start with the base of 1-2 cups of beef broth. (I know. That's not raw. It's for flavor) or straight (no corn syrup) frozen (defrosted)apple juice. Some may want to use vegetable broth. Next, chop 2-3 carrots and put in blender and blend. Add celery..blend. Add one small sliced raw beet, blend. It gets a little tricky as it gets thicker. Add one peeled avacado (makes the soup creamy).
Add 2-3 leaves Romain lettuce, green leaf lettuce, kale. Blend. Add what ever spices you like. I use 1 t. sea salt. 1 ts. cumin, 1 ts. garlic powder, 1 t. onion powder. This makes a blender full of soup.
For added nutrition I add 1 ts. of ground cocoa beans, 1 t. lethicin and 2-3 T. of ground flax seeds to each cup and a half of soup I eat.. I warm the soup stiring constantly until just barely warm. I know that people are use to eating food very hot but this really does work good. It's filling and nutricous and tastes good.

Hi, so far our blade has held up very well. There is always pulp left in the 'tube', but we just push it through with a knife when we are done grinding. There is ususally more pulp than juice. We put the pulp in a press and squeeze the juice out of it and that is what we drink.

When juicing, you should try to use raw everything. Be carful with the beets (that is what I was forgetting in my previous post). You only have to use a little bit. They are very hard, cut them into small pieces - they can be very messy (beet juice can be used as a dye) and they will turn your green juice purple!

                            soft wheat price..

It's 69 cents per pound. Hard wheat berries can be used too.
I needed to correct the spelling of the drink as there is more information on the internet having to do with different directions for making it.
                            It's called Rejuvelac.

I was reading about something else on the internet and did a search for it here. And this is one of the topics that popped up, so I just wanted to chime in too.

I juice as well. My brothers bought a juicer just before I showed up this recent christmas. So when I arrived home I ordered me a juicer. The omega 8004. I've had it for somewhere around a month I presume and I really enjoy it. I've been using it everyday so far.

I typically don't follow a recipe. I buy chard, kale, spinach, cucumbers, bell peppers, ginger, beets with greens, carrots, apples, and another really green leaf I can't think of, cilantro, and I dunno what else. I typically throw some of all of it together and juice it up. I try to keep it palatable by not putting in tons of green leafy vegetables. I'll typically do a leaf from a leafy vegetable or two, cucumber, beet with greens, bell pepper "mmmm", an apple or two, carrots, and a chunk of gunger, sometimes cilantro. It always looks "disguisting" according to my family, but it typically tastes delicious. I've made one that was super green with lots of leafy vegetables and an entire bunch of cilantro and I found it kinda hard to drink cus it wasn't too palatable.

I've also juiced lemons for a master cleanse. Limes for an egg yolk, lime juice, oil, liver flush. And oranges just for some tasty juice. I've yet to try juicing onions or garlic. I like to put onioins in my salads and garlic in the dressing I make "mmmm again".

Also I've made nut butter after soaking then drying the almonds. Also I've soaked some grains, dried em, then ground em to flour. Oh, I've also frozen bananas, blueberries, and mango slices then made em into a sorbet with only the fruit. "I guess this stuff aint juice, but anyhow..."

Juicing is good m'kay... aint quite nothing like fresh living enzyme enriched juice. sooo good.
If you've made it this far then I've finally quit rambling.
