  • Dolphins Playing - Fascinating

I ran across this and found it quite fascinating.

Video of Dolphins at Play - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Humans blow smoke rings but dolphins have a much healthier habit. The
attached video is of dolphins playing with rings which they have the ability to make under water to play with. It isn't known how they learn this, or if it's
    an inbred ability.

As if by magic the dolphin does a quick flip of its head and a silver ring
appears in front of its pointed beak. The ring is a solid, donut shaped
bubble about 2-ft across, yet it doesn't rise to the surface of the water! It
stands upright in the water like a magic doorway to an unseen
    dimension.

The dolphin then pulls a small silver donut from the larger one. Looking
at the twisting ring for one last time a bite is taken from it, causing the
small ring to collapse into a thousands of tiny bubbles which head upward
towards the water's surface. After a few moments the dolphin creates another ring to play with. There also seems to be a separate mechanism for producing small rings, which a dolphin can accomplish by a quick flip of its head.

An explanation of how dolphins make these silver rings is that they
are'air-core vortex rings'. Invisible, spinning vortices in the water are generated from the tip of a dolphin's dorsal fin when it is moving rapidly and
turning. When dolphins break the line, the ends are drawn together into a closed ring. The higher velocity fluid around the core of the vortex is at a lower pressure than the fluid circulating farther away. Air is injected into the
rings via bubbles released from the dolphin's blowhole. The energy of the water vortex is enough to keep the bubbles from rising for a reasonably few
    seconds of play time.

      Kevin,
That was wonderful and thank you for sharing!!! I once had the opportunity to swim with dolphins. I am not a very good swimmer, I will add. What was really interesting is that everyone in my group were keeping up with the dolphins and the trainer, except me. Two of the dolphins dropped out of the pack and came back to where I was, one on each side of me. One came really close to me and I grab a hold of him. At this point the other one went on ahead and joined all the other. The one I was holding on to gave me that beautiful knowing dolphin gaze and then slowly took me to the rest of the group. It was obvious to me that they knew I needed help and did so!! They are such amazing and awe inspiring creatures with wisdom and joy beyond anything we can imagine.

        Wow!

Wow! That was amaziing!!! I absolutely have been fascinated with dolfins all my life, and I just love to even get a glimpse of them.

It is funny when we lived in the Greater Seattle area... I would take a fairy (oh I know that is the wrong spelling for it. that is the little ones that fly around, but I am talking about the big boats) across the Sound to the peninsula to my dentist. It was sooo far for me to travel that he would usually cram as many treatments in each trip, and that made my day to the dentist round trip about 9 hours or more. The funny thing is that every trip I would see either dolphins or orcas. It was funny cause my X husband would never get to see them when he would take the boats across. I know many other people who have never got to see them either up there who have lived there for years.

When I was a kid fishing there with my Grandfather and Dad, a huge (bigger than our boat) ORCA surfaced and Breached right next to our boat! Splashed me with water and got me soaked! It was soooo awesome! I seem to attract these beautiful creatures when I am out on the waters. Actually even just standing by the sores I often will see dolphins or whales!

It is way cool! Thank you for sharing that as I did so enjoy the video of the dolphins and they're rings of air!

        Blessings Sallyjane

            Orcas And Dolphins, Oh My!

            Hi Sally Jane;

Apparently you are one of the fortunate people who have a "connection" with members of this group of seagoing creatures. Dolphins are well known for saving drowning people. They also have a very beneficial effect on autistic children who swim with them.
There is an amazing video on PBS I have seen several times about a family who lived on the coast of Australia where there was a whale migration route. A family of orcas headed by a big male they called Tom befriended them, saving several from drowning. This family hunted whales when they came by. Tom would come into the small bay in front of their house when whales were close, alert the family as to their presence, lead them to the whales exact location, and help herd them to the boats!

Sadly, he came to an early end due to someone who didn't like him. His bones are in a small maritime museum nearby. The jawbone still shows evidence of his untimely death.

There were more details I can't remember right now showing his very personal relationship with this family. If I can find the video I'll post the link. Maybe someone else has it or can find it and post it?

Anyway, I think you may have this connection. If so, you are a very fortunate lady.

Just wanted to share with you a video of where I swam with the dolphins.
YouTube - Dolphin Quest at the Kahala Hotel, Honolulu

There was one female Dolphin called Hi'iaka (Pele's sister) that I had an connection with. Hi'iaka had a bitten off piece on her dorsal fin that apparently was bitten off by her Mother when she was a baby. We stayed at the Kahala on the lagoon so we could the great joy of watching the dolphins swimming in the morning and evening. After our swim with the dolphins, every time I was outside by the lagoon she would come to me and turn on her side and look at me with her soulful eyes. It was amazing! This went on for the entire 10 days we stayed there and it didn't seem to matter where on the lagoon I was she would find me and come to me.
She is no longer at the Kahala she is now at Sea Life Park and she has had a baby!!!
I haven't seen her since that time but I still have the feeling if I was to go see her she would definitely remember me! Below is another link with her and her baby Lupita.

                  For Keoi!

                  Hi Keoi!

Great Videos!! When I was visiting Mexico my son and I swam with the Dolphins too! Sophia was too young. It was an amazing experience. It was in a very beautiful Natural Park called Xel-Ha mexico Xel-Há - Maravilla Natural de México - Inicio

The best part was when two dolphins, as I was in the middle of the pool wading, swam and one on each foot pushed me for a ride, something like body surfing. It was so Fabulous!! Watching the videos you posted brought back great memories!

Thank you Kevin, the video you posted of the Dolphin rings is very beautiful and wonderfully uplifting!

Wow, Grace! That's something! I've been to Xel Ha also and swam with the dolphins and had the same experience. It was just so incredible to have them come up and under that way and suddenly just be gliding across the water. What an amazing energy to be around the dolphins! I was initially a bit fearful but as soon as they came out all I could feel was joy! Totally awesome!!!
