The Passion of my LIFE!

Thank you Keoi for starting this thread, It was even more exciting to get up right now, (yes I slept in) and see all of your posts!!

As many of you know, my passion has been Martial Arts. I have been training in Okinawan Style Karate since February of 1996! Ha Ha Ha I just realized that my first day of training after signing up was February 14th! Valentine's Day (talk about passion). I remember this because when I went to train for noon class and was told me that they had canceled the noon class for that day. I was disappointed but excited and so came back the next day to start my training.

The name of my style is Uechi Ryu Karate Do. Classical Okinawan Karate.

Walt Disney World and it's Wide World of Sports now offers a Classical Karate style division for competitors from all over the world. The first year was last year. I was able to sign up for 6 divisions of various ages, weight classes, and demonstrations. I won Three gold medals, One silver medal, and Two Bronze medals. It was wonderful, but a very long and drawn out day.

This year, they had streamlined the process to shorten the day for all the competitors. You gave your Age, weight and rank, and were placed in only two divisions. Kata and Kumite. Kata is a choreographed routine demonstrating, technique, speed, fluidity etc. Kumite is sparring (fighting).

This year I was placed in the 35 and over division. I won Gold in Kata, and Bronze in Kumite. The gold medal put me into the Grand Champion Division for Kata, where you have to go up against all the gold medal winners 18 years old and up. Last year my gold medals were for Kata and Kumite, but I did not win the Grand Champion Crystal Trophy. THIS YEAR I DID!!! This is my first time being a Grand Champion!

The whole day was magical, We were all there at 8am. 55 competitors from our Dojo alone! (including children and adults) Black Belt Adult Male and Females always compete last, so it was not until 3pm that our events began. I walked around observing and offering support to all our young competitors.

55 competitors along with their parents, friends significant others etc, made it over 100 people sitting in the stands rooting for all of us. When they announced my name over the loud speaker (very loud speaker) as Grand Champion the cheers from the crowd was enough to knock me over! I can take a kick to the head with no problem (thanks to CEM) but the Joy everyone felt, almost had me crying (with tears of joy) in front of the Judges.

I also want to thank all of you, because many of you sent me love and light during the day!! I love you so much for doing this.

My perception of competing has shifted. It shifted before yesterday's competition. I knew that it was no longer about winning and losing. It was now going to be about unity and Love. I was going to go to Disney this year with the intention to make corrections and bring forth the light to the whole event. To create Joy for all, not just my Dojo but for all. This event has done more in unifying our friendships than anything has so far!
