    It's just a simple question but I can't find a satysfying answer:

    Does the Earth's magnetic field decrease (or gets somehow shielded if measured) underground?

    Just that. (You may call it a quickie )

    I don't know for sure. From what I can tell, ferrous material (or other magnets) is the only thing that can distort magnetic flux. Make sure there are no chunks of metal nearby, and it shouldn't be 'shielded'.

    The magnetic field is more intense the further down to the earth's core that you get. In theory, you should actually get a stronger reading.
