When "contagious" is a good word

With the world media's constant focus on negativity it is often easy to think that that is all that is going on in the world, when in actual fact there are many marvellous examples of change occurring.

The following is one inspirational story that I came across awhile ago (video takes a few secs to load) that caught my fancy:

I think news programming in general has quite a bit of explaining to do. I guess they would argue that they report on what people "want to know about" but what I want to know is why overall negativity dominates.

World problems, local problems, death, destruction, dangerous product recalls, cute human interest story seems to be the pattern. They let you know you are living in a dangerous place that isn't getting any better and finish you off with something sweet to make you think you forget the horror they just fed you.

What is interesting is when there is real horror, they seem to steer clear of it and when their is phony horror (bird flu, h1n1) they dwell on it.

All very interesting to ponder.
