It started in Tunisia. It spread to Egypt. It caught momentum and dictatorship dominoes became the name of the game for 2011 across the world...

But now where? Would you believe... THE USA?

But the US isn't a dictatorship. It's a free country! Why would anyone want o revolt against freedom and democracy?

Well, because the banks and the corporations, who AREN'T voted into any kind of power, have far too much say in what happens in the US. The labor protests in Wisconsin have evolved into a movement, the Madison Movement. Only heard about it today, (like, five minutes ago.) but stay tuned, this could become huge.

Come on America, step up and take back your country from the banksters. You know you want to... The time is NOW!

      Peaceful, peaceful.

70,000 people have been protesting non stop for 19 days in Wisconsin. Even the police have joined the sit-in (I guess now it's live in) protests.

I just wonder what FOX, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, PBS, ABC, NBC et al have to say about that... I can see the hedlines now "Union commies invade Wisconsin, eat babies, burn flags, drink blood of virgins under full moon." or something equally objective, balanced and honest. That's if they're reporting it all.

The 70,000 appears to be an exaggeration, but any public employ could be effected by the changes.

Well I am not in Wisconsin but I am in Illinois and my state has a similar if not worse problems with its public employees. Now no one is saying that they should not be paid a decent wage or have decent benefits. But the problem is these so called “poor” public employees have learned how to scam the system.

For example teachers and their unions over the years have demanded higher wages, better benefits, pension plans, etc. They claim this will bring in better grade of teachers and therefore the children will benefit as a result. Of course in the past if they didn’t get what they asked for they would threaten to or go no strike. But mind you they are only doing it "for the children". As a result the pensions that some of the retired teachers are getting is way more then what some average people earn in a year. Obviously they have become accustomed to living in a style that the average taxpayer can no longer afford to support.

Naturally they do not want to make any chances in their life style thus it is up to the taxpayers to come up with more money for them, or their children will suffer. Unfortunately it seems the children are already suffering. Even with all of the money that is currently being spent on education Wisconsin schools have rather low text scores. But obviously to the teachers that only means that there is not enough money being spent on education. The thought that there might be a problem with the teachers is something that’s not to be talked about.

Locally a school district hired a new superintendent for their district. This individual was given a high six figure salary. She was on the job for four months, including time off and sick days, at which point she retired. At that point she was then eligible for a low six figure pension salary. It is because of cases like this that have the average taxpayer upset with their “poor” public employees.

Now while these problems need fixing and should be fixed as most here are aware this will have little effect on the overall economy and sadly may act to sidetrack more important economic discussions. Of course that maybe the goal.

Yeah well, I officially don't care anymore. People get the government they deserve, and you guys have yours.

Lost cause if you can't see the middle class has every right to expect fair pay. $19,000 a year for a teaching job? An unemployed couple gets more than that on welfare in Australia. And free medical care (which everyone gets, no matter what they earn.) And free education, by very well paid teachers. Thanks to OUR labor movement. And surprise, surprise, our economy hasn't stopped growing through this entire "global economic crisis."

I think THAT's because we're not throwing away trillions of dollars a year on wars of aggression, speaking of sidetracking important discussions.

From previous posts that you've written, I find it very hard to believe that this is actually the way you feel. Maybe at the time you wrote it, but none of us, after applying any thought at all to the matter, could logically come to this conclusion.

The national average is around $49,000. The lowest starting salary is in the neighborhood of $25,000. I would agree that the lowest starting salary is lower here in this country than it is in Australia.

Not sure what your point is here. Are you suggesting that we have a labor movement here, free medical care is better than paid for medical care, and better paid teachers do a better job?

I'll grant you all day long that our government and our country has some serious problems that are not being addressed adequately. However, I also see that most countries and governments also have serious problems that are not being adequately addressed. It's the way of the world. Australia is not perfect by any means, nor is it better than other countries. It is what it is. We can all move there if it will make you feel better...
