    Pulse width modulator

I was told Microwave ovens have a pulse width modulator. Can anyone elaborate on this, or how it can be used ?

Tried the experiment in post#2 took quite a while to pop. Might have to do a lot of tweaking to get it right with a motor. Anyone else try this yet ?

        Qoute from Joule Ringer thread

Lasersaber did you take a Fuji transformer apart, to figure out how to wind this?
Because i wonder, why they do so, and it looks like a efficient Transformer, more then the 80% what are normal. Would point out, that they do know, how to make them, just hide it in very small parts like this little Flashlights. Or it is your additional Coil there.
This Triggercoil reminds me at a Micrrowavetransformer, the Frequency comes there at the Midle in also.
Did you tried to place another Pot once to the Base of the Base and adjusting there?
Has anyone tried using a microwave transformer in a Joule Ringer setup ?

          transformer wire

Just in case if not known; some MOT's don't have a copper wire. It looks like but when you compare two coils from different ones you'll notice that it is incredibly light to be a copper. Quite useless. I took apart quite a few in recent years and was surprised. Transformer is not hard to dismantle and wire can be salvaged with care, since there is some resin on the outside. It should be enough to make a small window motor. Also, hv diode going to the cap can be used for other projects.

I agree, some of the transformers I have used over last years have a very soft material primary winding and it is silvery in color, but coated with a coating that looks them to look like copper. That is probably aluminum.
About a PWM inside, it is not essential for the oven to work. I usually take the transformer, the HV diode, HV capacitor, the fan motor and the small motor that turns the dish. Those are all parts that are usable in all kinds of different projects, like Tesla coils and such. Also there are a whole bunch of thermic switches in there that are also great. Everything else goes to the dump.
It's better to wear off by working than to rust by doing nothing.

China has started making a lot of electrical goods with aluminum windings, from electric drills to microwaves and arc welders. It’s cheaper lighter and burns out much more easily, just what they want.

                Thanks all last few posts

Thanks Vtech, Jetijs, and mbrownn. This is all valuable info I was not aware of.
