To avoid the risk of explosion, Tepco is to inject nitrogen gas to suppression chamber of reactor1 for a month)
However, the hydrogen gas concentration in PCV1 had been increasing from 10/23 to 10/30/2012.
The highest reading was 1.47 vol% (System A) and 1.48 vol% (System B) of 10/30/2012, which are 7 times much as 10/23/2012.

They are sill measuring Krypton in reactor1 to suggest fissioning is still on-going, and melted fuel must be still somewhere in reactor1, 2, and 3.
All they can do is just to keep giving water. No solution. Nobody can grab the fuel out. The coolant system is so provisional, it will have more and more problems and it may take many years to decommission the plant.
At this moment, billions of Bq of radiation is still leaking to the environment every single day. Even without explosion, leaked radiation will be accumulated in human body.

Plant officials told regulators on Oct. 30 that they discovered coolant mixed with oil that helps run an emergency diesel generator in Unit 3, federal and utility officials confirmed Thursday.

“They don’t know right now how the coolant got in there,” said John Reynoso, a Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspector at San Onofre. [...]

The failure of emergency generators at Fukushima was cited as one of several factors in that plant’s meltdown last year. [...]

A grinning bird mascot has been enlisted to teach Japanese children in Fukushima how to stay safe from the radiation that escaped from the region’s crippled nuclear power plant.

Kibitan — a plump, yellow cartoon character with stubby wings and boots is warning youngsters to stay away from puddles and ditches, where radioactive particles accumulate.
In a leaflet issued by Fukushima’s disaster taskforce, the character, inspired by the region’s narcissus flycatcher bird, asks children to promise they will wash their hands and gargle with water when they get home.
A smiling Kibitan explains what radiation is and cautions that it can make people sick if it gets inside their body.
Environmental campaign group Greenpeace charged last month that heavily- populated areas several dozen kilometres from the plant have radiation levels as much as 13 times the legal limit.

The long-delayed cleanup of the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site became the subject of more bad news Friday, when Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced that a radioactive waste tank there is leaking.

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Energy said liquid levels are decreasing in one of 177 underground tanks at the site.

Officials at the utility known as Tepco, including President Naomi Hirose, have said the company will not “easily” release radiated water into the ocean, indicating it’s not ruling out the possibility if it runs out of storage.

“It’s obvious Tepco cannot keep storing water forever as it increases by 400 tons a day,” said Hideyuki Ban, co-director of the antinuclear group Citizens’ Nuclear Information Center. That’s why the company won’t rule out discharge into the sea, Ban said in a telephone interview.

April 10, 2013: Some experts say that contaminated water has continued to reach the Pacific. Jota Kanda, an oceanographer at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, said last month in a discussion paper posted on the Web site of the journal Biogeosciences that Tepco’s own readings of radiation levels in waters off the plant suggest a continued leak of radioactive cesium into the ocean. “This suggests that water might be leaking out from the plant through damaged pipes or drains or other routes,” he said.

Legacy Danger: Old Nuclear Waste Found in English Channel

German journalists have discovered barrels of radioactive waste on the floor of the English Channel. It was previously thought the material had dissipated. A new investigative report from the joint French-German public broadcaster ARTE has concluded that the waste is still intact at the bottom of the sea. German public broadcaster SWR discovered two nuclear waste barrels at a depth of 124 meters (406 feet) just kilometers from the French coast.
The British barrels are estimated to have contained 58 trillion becquerels (units of radioactivity), while the Belgian barrels held some 2.4 trillion becquerels.

Japan Considering 21 Geothermal Plans After Fukushima, METI Says

Japan is considering at least 21 geothermal projects as it searches for alternative energy sources after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident, according to data compiled by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Incentives for clean energy, including above-market rates for power derived from underground sources regardless of plant size, are encouraging the projects, Shinichiro Fukushima, an official in charge of geothermal energy at the ministry, said at a briefing in Tokyo today. The 21 possible projects include seven where small-sized binary turbines may be used, he said.

Before Fukushima and the beginning of the incentive program in July, Japan’s geothermal power development was mainly comprised of large-scale projects concentrated in the Hokkaido and Tohoku regions in northern Japan as well as the southern island of Kyushu, Fukushima said.

“Even very small projects are now worth the cost with the introduction of feed-in tariffs,” he said.

Japan has 17 geothermal plants currently in operation with a total capacity of 520 megawatts, according to the ministry. The 21 projects now under consideration are at different stages of research, Fukushima said.
Officials are conducting studies to determine the capacity for the projects, according to the ministry.

The feed-in tariff for geothermal is 27.3 yen per kilowatt hour for plants with capacity of 15,000 kilowatts or larger, and 42 yen for smaller plants, both for 15 years.

More than 120 dead animals have been discovered since June from New Jersey to Virginia, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Fisheries Service said. Federal scientists have declared it an “unusual mortality event” and are investigating the cause, said Maggie Mooney-Seus of NOAA Fisheries. A number of things can cause dolphins to strand, including harmful algal blooms, infectious viruses, injuries due to ship strikes, pollutants and human-made runoff, NOAA said. Although the cause has not been determined, early tissue analysis showed that one suspect could be morbillivirus, an infectious pathogen, said Teri Rowles, national marine mammal stranding coordinator for NOAA Fisheries. Marine stranding response centers are collecting information on the deaths and necropsies are being performed, but it could take several weeks to determine what led to the deaths, the NOAA said. In this month alone, 28 dolphins were found dead along the shores of the East Coast. It has been 25 years since the last large die-off of dolphins along the U.S. coast. In 1987, more than 740 animals died of morbillivirus on the coast from New Jersey to Florida. Scientists warned the public not to approach the animals if they see one stranded because they could harbor an infectious disease. [...] “Two days ago I did a beach seine on Malcolm Island [near Port McNeill on northern Vancouver Island] and I got approximately 100 of these little herring and they were not only bleeding from their fins, but their bellies, their chins, their eyeballs. [...] “It was 100 per cent … I couldn’t find any that weren’t bleeding to some degree. And they were schooling with young sockeye [salmon]”

Sun News, Aug 12, 2013: [Morton] dragged up several hundred of the fish this past weekend and found the apparent infection had spread – instead of their usual silver colour the fish had eyes, tails, underbellies, gills and faces plastered with the sickly red colour. “I have never seen fish that looked this bad,” [...] In June, the affected fish were only found in eastern Johnstone Strait, but have since spread to Alert Bay and Sointula, she said.

‘Response’ from Canadian Government

Vancouver 24 hrs, Aug 11, 2013: [Morton] says Fisheries and Oceans Canada [FOC] is ignoring the problem. [...] According to emails from FOC, the federal authority had asked the marine biologist to send in 20 to 30 herring in September 2011, saying that would be “more than sufficient for the lab to look for clinical signs of disease and provide sufficient diagnostics.” She did, and hasn’t heard back since. [...] FOC officials did not respond to a request for comment by the 24 hours presstime.

The pediatricians’ general textbook says that reference value of neutrophil [the most abundant type of white blood cells, essential part of immune system] for healthy children (6-12 years old) is [...] 4000, but it has shifted to 2500. It is lower than the threshold value of 3000. I think this points at a serious problem. [...]

In the summer of 2011, there were many children with bloodshot eyes; and what we saw most were children with dark circles under the eyes. [...] we are seeing more cases of sinusitis accompanied with mild case of asthma continuing for longer periods. And when these children spend some time in the West, they get better. If at all possible, I would like them to move away from East Japan. [...]

[...] radioactive substances coming from Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant have reached Tokyo, and huge amounts of contaminated waste is being burned here as well, I cannot deny the possibility that we are inhaling radioactive substances contained in the air. Again, let me repeat that after the nuclear accident, enormous amounts of nuclear substances were released in the environment. Therefore, if we see an increase in symptoms that are different from the ones we’ve seen before, we physicians should “first consider the effects of radioactivity.” [...]

This is eventually what is going to happen but not before the embarrassed establishment sickens and kilss thousands. Pride is not a virtue in this case. They need to open up and tell the world how bad it really is so that they can get some help. The Japanese are some of the most prideful people in the world. They need to suck it up this time and stop the cover up. Stop the incompetence and ask for and get help or we will all pay for it.
