I stumbled upon your forum by researching Phillo T Farnsworth who actually was a great pioneer for this company ( ITT Laboratories ). This item was dropped off at my work for recycle, I guess whoever had it was as clueless as I was? It's not really damaged, just dated, and needs to be cleaned. I just cannot for the life of me figure out what this thing is for?? Is it something I could throw on eBay for a fortune? lol.. This has me stumped, I haven't seen a thing online on what this is, any information would be amazing..

What is this?? ITT Laboratories - Dual Mode Scanner?

my guess..
It could be the scanning device using Nipkow discs (lamp) used in early stages of mechanical television. What you see on the front is the lens and (inside) behind should be a disc with small holes in it. This was a device converting light to electric signals. Since the image was passing through one hole at the time single photo element was used as detector. This is just my guess. I'll have to look inside and analyze circuit to tell some more.
