  • methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)

I just hear about this on a conference call over the internet,
from a woman saying she was a nutritionist.

    So I did a search.

    Source link
discovery that MSM can be ingested by all organisms investigated so far in
almost unlimited quantities without causing any toxic effects. The same
cannot be said about the sulfur containing amino acids methionine and
cysteine, which can be consumed in small quantities, but at larger doses
    cause undesired toxic symptoms (3).

... MSM is considered to be one of the least toxic substances in biology, similar in toxicity to water ...

... MSM is the natural form in which sulfur is found in the earth's sulfur cycle
... unavoidable that modern man suffers from a chronic shortage of MSM. ...
(see the paragraphs under subtitle: NATURAL SOURCES OF MSM)

Chronic Pain ... blocks the transfer of pain impulses ...

... MSM has been widely tested as a food ingredient without any reports of allergic reactions. ...
Anything that can be used by plants or animals and has been proven
[B]non-toxic at extreme quantities/B], qualifies it as healthy in my book.

    Does anyone know about/use MSM?
Is the information in the above link valid/confirmed?
The question is the sulfur in MSM of better use than that in amino acids?
Are the other organic parts of Methyl or methane of use to the body?

In the above link it states "MSM is rapidly lost due to heating"
yet, here MSM states it has "thermal stability"

    1 pound = 453 grams
so purchasing power Crystal or Flakes is cheaper than the Capsules.

That nutritionist had also said for optimal use of MSM by the body, equal amounts of ascorbic acid should be taken.
MSM is being used for burn victims..she has a client using it and
    for pain too.

If this is correct and MSM requires ascorbic acid to make it available for
use by the body, then studies on just MSM would be invalid?

    Randy,

MSM is an all time favorite. Rich's brand is one of the best
and crystals in bulk is usually the cheapest.

It is good for getting rid of lactic acid build up, which is
responsible for muscle pain after a workout.

It is common for it to be blended with glucosamine and
    chondroiton.

It is very good for tissue regeneration and works
    synergistically with vitamin c.

It is related to DSMO, the solvent that is used for muscle
    pain.

It is basically a type of sulfur compound and is available
at almost any health food store.

At my store, I sold tons of that stuff. Many people would
buy it pounds at a time and they swore by it. For many
people, it was their choice for reducing all kinds of pain.

It is very non-toxic but at high doses, it is possible for it
    to act as a laxative.

    Anyway, hope that helps.
    Sincerely,
    Aaron Murakami
