  • Japanese Ingredient Help (Is It Healthy?)

    Hello,
I have some products that have ingredient labels all in Japanese. There has been a discussion on if "Maggi Bouillon cubes" have MSG in them. I believe they do but I have no proof because the letters MSG are not on the label. All I want to know is if I am ingesting questionable substances.

Sorry to bother you Aaron but I think you may be the best person to ask, but if anyone can chime in, it is appreciated.

If you can read Japanese, please look at the pictures to tell me if they are safe to eat or not. Also pay attention to any fully hydrogenated substances, or questionable preservatives please.

(anecdotal evidence. After a meal was prepared with 15 bouillon cubes to feed a total of 4 people, the bathroom smelled like vomit in the morning. No one is confessing what happened last night.)

2 pics of Maggi cube tube, 1 pic of a savory salad dressing, and 1 pic of a bag of curry.

I just want people to know what they are eating...
I know Maggi USA uses alot of MSG... I don't know if its any different in Japan.
    Thank you for your help.

I can't read enough of the kanji to tell you anything. But I would guess
that most likely it does have msg but probably not enough enough to
cause vomiting. Nausea is known to be a msg effect if taking enough of
it but for the most part, anyone that has a hard time with msg usually
just gets a headache when using pre-packaged foods that contain msg.
To get seriously ill, I think someone would have to get a bottle of msg
and sprinkle a whole lot in their food (soup, whatever) to get enough to
cause some serious problems like vomiting.
    Sincerely,
    Aaron Murakami
