  • Defeat This Food Safety Bill Now!

If there is one thing to take action on right now between NOW and
right after thanksgiving, THIS IS IT!

Senate Bill 510 vote delayed until after Thanksgiving - Take action now to oppose food tyranny

Senate Bill 510 vote delayed until after Thanksgiving - Take action now to oppose food tyranny

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) If there's one thing to give thanks for this year, it's the fact that the Senate floor vote on the so-called "Food Safety Modernization Act" has been delayed until after the Senate's Thanksgiving recess. This gives all of us -- the commonsense opponents of S.510 who don't want the FDA having authority over raw milk, seeds and backyard gardens -- another week to flood the offices of U.S. Senators with calls, faxes and emails that express opposition to the bill.

The jury is still out on the Tester-Hagan Amendment which would exempt small farmers from some of the more tyrannical requirements under the law. If this amendment were adopted, it would substantially improve the bill, but even with this amendment, the bill is just another overreaching expansion of Big Government into yet another area of incompetence. (If the government can't run health care worth a darn, how are they supposed to manage the entire food supply?)

    The 1099 paperwork amendment

As part of this debate over the safety of the food supply, Sen Mike Johanns is making a courageous attempt to kill the new, idiotic 1099 reporting requirement that would require every person running a small business in America to get 1099 forms from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Costco, Amazon.com or any other retailer where they've spent over $600 in the previous year.

This absolute nightmare of 1099 paperwork was passed as part of the Obamacare health care reform legislation earlier this year (http://www.naturalnews.com/028854_1...). It will turn America's small business owners into paperwork pack rats and criminalize anyone who doesn't spent several hundred hours a year chasing 1099 forms from corporations that are almost certain to refuse to give them to you. This is the government's way of penalizing small business owners in America and killing off yet more jobs as a way to destroy the economy.

This 1099 recall is the only real positive thing being considered in the Food Safety and Modernization Act. And as you've probably noticed, it has nothing to do with food.

    What comes next for S.510

On Monday, November 29, a vote will be taken on the Harkin amendment, which is merely a rephrasing of the bill with some new wording that came out of committee.

After that, a vote is planned for the bill itself, meaning S.510 could be passed into law on November 29th.

Additional debate time might be invoked for various amendments to the bill, as there are some motions still pending (Johanns, Baucus, Coburn). So it's not a given thing that a final vote will happen on Nov 29th.

Watch NaturalNews.com for more updates on this bill throughout next week. We will continue to rally opposition to the bill.

I'm not against some commonsense improvements in food safety, but to give Big Brother yet more control over seed saving, backyard food production and small organic farms is an outright disaster, not an improvement.

Besides, as we now know, the problem with e.coli, salmonella and other pathogens in the food supply is really a problem with factory animal farms -- notably cattle and chicken operations. That's where these pathogens come from (e.coli grows in the intestines of animals), so cleaning up factory animal farms is the answer to food safety, not invoking the FDA and its food irradiation agenda.

Why not hand the FDA more power over our food supply?

It's amazing to see that people are lining up to grant more power to the FDA -- the very agency that has killed more Americans through its corruption, fraud and negligence than any other organization in the history of the nation.

I've written a full story on this important fact, which details how the FDA is far more dangerous than terrorists and that putting the FDA in charge of our national food supply can only lead to disaster. Read that story at: http://www.naturalnews.com/030461_S...

Take action now to stop S.510

Your voice needs to be heard on this issue. The vote on this bill has been delayed until after the Thanksgiving recess, so you have more time to oppose this dangerous legislation.

        @Everyone

If any of you think this is no big deal, why not get together for a game of Russian Roulette.

This is not lawful as the Health Care Bill is not, but this one will take care of the points they missed. This is the total domination of what was America and the movement of everyone to total slavery and massive death via GMO foods designed for this specific reason.

Stand up now or this may be the last time you have that chance.....

The US Senate Wants to Kill Food Freedom!
            Final Vote Tuesday.
At about 7 PM Monday the Senate voted cloture on germain amendments, 69 to 26 with significant GOP support. Don't forget! This sets stage for final vote Tuesday. Prior cloture vote was 74 in favor, so we are making headway. PUSH BACK CONTINUES! The other side lost 6 votes because of our continual electronic hammering. Let's Push Back a whole bunch more before the voting resumes!

Sen Coburn says: bill will raise food prices; add 1.5 billion to deficit; add unfunded state mandates. His substitute amendment is 1/5th the size and, he believes, would protect food safety without increasing FDA power & cost.

Please continue to call and email your Senators. Our email system seems to have reached maximum at about 15,000 per hour, so if you have a hard time getting in, please keep on trying! Call and email as often as you can!

After limiting debate on Dr. Coburn's substitute amendment which would at least remove some of the worst provisions of S.510 (such as secret "national security" guidelines) the Senate vote against a "nongermain" amendment to repeal the Health Care Law provision requiring 1099 forms for small transactions was to have been a sop to the Tea Party. Similarly, a watered-down version of the Tester amendment was included in the Managers' bill, but, as we've shown elsewhere, it is offers a false hope of protection in inflationary times.

The ad hoc coalition against S.510 of health and food freedom advocates (such as Health FreedomUSA and Citizens for Health), garden, farm and ranch groups, both major Tea Party groups, the Oath Keepers, Downsize DC, Campaign for Liberty and others will not be fooled and we will remember!

We the People will continue to oppose S.510, hoping a few more Senators will want to avoid being retired, but if it passes the Senate, we will oppose it in the House/Senate Conference and will petition the current White House occupant to veto it. If he fails to do so, we will support defunding it in the new Congress!

We, the freedom forces, are so fortunate to have you and people like you allied together. Evil forces are routed by respositories of hope coupled with action - which is what we are! It's not over yet... please use this link to go directly to the Action Item: Health Freedom Action -- up to 15000 emails an hour are telling decision makers: NO! S.510!

Industry bought Congressional votes to pass S. 510 food safety bill

Industry bought Congressional votes to pass S. 510 food safety bill

                by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Despite an incredible outpouring of public opposition to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "Food Safety Modernization Act", or S. 510, the Senate voted 73 to 25 to pass the bill anyway. And data presented by Maplight.org, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization, shows that big industry groups and large food producers spent millions of dollars buying off Congressmen to garner support for it.

According to the site, Senators that ended up supporting the bill received nearly $10 million in political contributions from interest groups that also supported the bill. This amount was more than four times as much as groups opposed to the bill spent on overall contributions.

Some of the supporters of S. 510 that made these significant monetary contributions in order to buy support for the bill include Kraft Foods North America, the American Beverage Association, General Mills, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, and the Snack Food Association.

Interestingly, the top four receivers of contributions from groups that supported the bill actually voted against it, most likely because they are all Republicans and the bill was authored by Democrat Richard Durbin. Even so, these include Sens. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) who received $503,700, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who received $415,899, Jon Kyl (R-AZ) who received $335,377, and Richard Burr (R-NC) who received $317,086.

The top receivers of contributions from groups that supported the bill, and who ended up voting in favor of it, include Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) who received $301,776, Ben Nelson (D-NE) who received $245,906, Charles Schumer (D-NY) who received $179,435, and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) who received $149,278.

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) Senate Bill S 510 - the "Food Safety Modernization Act" - was passed by the U.S. Senate today (http://www.naturalnews.com/030576_F...). If signed into law, it would unleash a new era of FDA tyranny over farmers, food producers and even small family farms, many of which already exceed the "small farms exclusion" written into the bill.

Here's the list of US Senators who voted to approve final passage of S.510. Remember these names when the next election comes around:

                  Akaka (D-HI)

                  Additional commentary about the vote

Notably, there was not a single Democrat who opposed the bill. This bill was also supported by Food, Inc. authors Michael Pollan and Eric Schlosser, who have become the favored food commentators of the left. It's now clear why: In supporting this bill, they have aligned themselves against Constitutional freedoms and in favor of increased Big Government (FDA) authority over food, seeds and farmers.

Change.org also strongly supported S.510, although its online petition pitifully attracted only 1,662 signatures. The Libertarian groups who opposed the bill, in contrast, generated hundreds of thousands of emails and phone calls to U.S. Senate offices. These Libertarian-minded groups include NaturalNews, the Alliance for Natural Health (www.ANH-USA.org) and the Natural Solutions Foundation (www.HealthFreedomUSA.org), among others.

As you well know, I personally don't trust Democrats nor Republicans, but this fight over S.510 has shown yet again that, to the left, Big Government is always thought to be the solution, even if it means stripping away the Constitutional rights of Americans.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans will take away your rights and money as an excuse to take care of the rich people. Democrats, on the other hand, will take away your rights and money as an excuse to take care of everybody.

Remember: Republicans gave us the Patriot Act. And now Democrats have given us the Food Safety bill. Both laws are unconstitutional expansions of government power that the American people will come to regret.
                  Sincerely,
                  Aaron Murakami

House May Block Food Safety Bill Over Senate Error

House May Block Food Safety Bill Over Senate Error

A food safety bill that has burned up precious days of the Senate’s lame-duck session appears headed back to the chamber because Democrats violated a constitutional provision requiring that tax provisions originate in the House.

By pre-empting the House’s tax-writing authority, Senate Democrats appear to have touched off a power struggle with members of their own party in the House. The Senate passed the bill Tuesday, sending it to the House, but House Democrats are expected to use a procedure known as “blue slipping” to block the bill, according to House and Senate GOP aides.

The debacle could prove to be a major embarrassment for Senate Democrats, who sought Tuesday to make the relatively unknown bill a major political issue by sending out numerous news releases trumpeting its passage.

Section 107 of the bill includes a set of fees that are classified as revenue raisers, which are technically taxes under the Constitution. According to a House GOP leadership aide, that section has ruffled the feathers of Ways and Means Committee Democrats, who are expected to use the blue slip process to block completion of the bill.

“We understand there is a blue slip problem, and we expect the House to assert its rights under the Constitution to be the place where revenue bills begin,” the GOP aide said.

The blue slip could lead to one of two likely outcomes. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) could simply drop the issue and let the next session of Congress start from scratch, a strategy that would allow him time in the lame-duck session to tackle other last-minute priorities, such as the expiring 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, a long-term continuing resolution, an immigration bill and a repeal of the military’s ban on openly gay service members.

Or he could try to force the issue in the Senate after the House passes a new version of the bill. But in order to do that and still tackle the other issues, he would need a unanimous consent agreement to limit debate.
According to Senate GOP aides, a unanimous consent agreement is all but certain to be a nonstarter because the bill’s chief opponent, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), will not agree to such a deal.

Coburn “will object and demand changes as [he has] from the get-go,” a GOP aide familiar with the situation said.

This is not the first time that Reid has run afoul of the Constitution’s tax origination provisions. His efforts to pass a tourism promotion bill that was key to his re-election hopes was temporarily stymied earlier this year because the Senate passed a version with revenue raisers similar to those in the food safety bill.

Spokesmen for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Ways and Means Democrats and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), a co-sponsor of the food safety bill who authored its language, did not immediately return requests for comment. Aides for Ways and Means Democrats also did not immediately return requests for comment.
                            Sincerely,
                            Aaron Murakami

Why Take Both? The Answer is Right Here:

                              1. Senate Has Not Reported S510 Out To House Yet!
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD DIE AT THIS STAGE (good)
                              2. S510, Section 107 is unconstitutional (only the House can raise revenue) so the House can

2a. "Blue Flag" S510 and send it back to the Senate or

2b. The House can defeat S510 (good)

2c. The House can pass S510 as sent to it (bad)
                              3. If the House Blue Flags S510, it goes back to the Senate where
3a. The Senate could defeat S510 (good) or

3b. The Senate could run out of time to pass an amended S510 (good) or

3c. The Senate could pass S510 after the amendment to remove Sec. 107. It would then send it to the House again where
3.1 The House could defeat it (good) or
3.2 The House could pass it (tragically bad)

It is time to hammer both the House and the Senate really, really hard.
