Bee populations have soared in the four European countries that have banned a group of toxic pesticides that multiple scientific studies blame for bee loss.

Pesticides are nothing

When it comes to bee's youre missing the biggest risk of all. I'm not saying pesticides arent a problem but they are NOTHING compared to what the Varroa Mite Destructor has done to bee colonies earthwide. Varroa Mite is the main culprit that causes CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) where entire hives die within short periods of time.

Due to Australia's stringent quarantine laws, we are one of the last countries that are essentially an 'Ark' not yet affected by the Varroa Mite. Every week, millions of bees are flown from Australia to countries like the USA to prop up their depleted populations which are being hammered by Varroa. If this wasn't the case, USA would be a sterile farming wasteland with no bees to polinate it's crops.

As far as pesticides go, I don't fancy them either but if you have seen the alternative where the nasties run rampant and destroy swathes of crops...what then?? Higher food prices and people *****ing about that! Not everything can be solved with a cup of Camomile Tea and happy thoughts.

There are alternatives to pesticides with toxic chemicals that work very very well.

What kind of actions can we take against the pesticides? How can we prevent it?

I don't have an insane ammount of freetime, but I am willing to set aside a chunk of time to help if I knew how.

what to do

What I did when I found out about that leaked document is that I
spent 30 minutes to email as many email addresses as I could find on
Beekeeper Association websites across the country. That was only a small
fraction. I don't know if it will do any good, but if I was a beekeeper, I'd
be organizing a movement against the epa.

Anyway, I'd sign the petition and then search online for Beekeeper
Associations around the country - email them with all those links.
Just copy and past all of them:

One thing is I really love Lisa Jackson. Imo she always does what she can given her position.

I've heard her hold up very sane conversation against some really challenging insane things said during debate.

I think she needs our support and she will do whatever she can.

As administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Lisa Jackson leads the nations efforts to regulate pollution. The first African-American to head the EPA, she has made environmental justice a centerpiece of her agencys mission.

Shortly after she was appointed by President Barack Obama to lead the EPA, The New York Times wrote that less than a month into the job, and with only a skeleton staff, Lisa Jackson has engineered an astonishing turnaround.

As a graduate student in chemical engineering at Princeton, Jackson researched groundwater contamination, work that led to her to focus her engineering skills on addressing pollution. Jackson is former chief of staff to New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine. She joined New Jerseys Department of Environmental Protection in 2002, serving the agencys commissioner from 2006 to 2008. Before that she worked for 16 years for the EPA.

But why hasn't she immediately put a stop to the pesticide and
allowed BP to continue spraying Corexit amongst other things?

IF she has any good intentions, it seems she is only a mouthpiece
and has no power to do what the EPA is supposed to do - protect
the people instead of industry.

Well I just figure she has limitations in what she can do. I'm not saying she's a die hard willing to risk her job for every issue but I think I'd rather have her there than anyone because she seems like she's on the right side and has the understanding of how to navigate the system however she might be able to make progress.

Even Obama as US president has serious limitations on what he is able to do, so she must as well. I feel she is taking things in the right direction.

I understand that might not seem good enough but also consider she hasn't been in her current position for super long.
