My S.J... Thank you SO Much, for permission to use your rose pic for my painting! I was looking through more of your amazing pics last night and LOVING them! I certainly don't have the advanced talent in making pics as the rest of you creative Doll-Babys, but you are right, S.J.... No reason for me to be shy about sharing some more... After all... When was I ever known to be SHY when it comes to posting ANYTHING on this forum???
I wanted to share some of my granddaughter art work. It is all pencil and pen drawn. They show small on the web site, so the detail doesn't show as good as the originals.
She is into Anime, so most of her art is based off of that. She has been developing her own character and several pics inside are of her friends. She has had no art training of any type and she is really into Japanese things of all types. She is even taking Japanese and hopes to go there next summer as an exchange student. Oh, yal she is 15 years old and 4.0 student in school.
Yes...yes...I am a proud Grandma,
But be truthful and tell me what you think. Especially you Pamela, any advise from the Art teacher with such amazing talents would be appreciated!!
I have just spent a good deal of time looking to Kanna's gallery and I am VERY IMPRESSED!!! It appears that she has a natural ability with the human figure and this is very unusual for someone her age, especially without any artistic training... Looking to her work brings back memories of how much I LOVED to draw the figure when I was her age, but it wasn't until I went to college and had my classes in figure drawing that I was able to capture the expressive quality of what is called "gesture" and she is doing this remarkably well! Normally, this gesture drawing is taught by having a model strike a pose for the students for 30 seconds to one minute and using very quick, circular, gross-motor, pencil strokes for the different parts of the body (head, shoulder area, upper arm, forearm, hand, torso, pelvic region, thigh calf, foot), the student captures the movement of the body in the moment. From there, the student refines the drawing, moving from the general to the specific and finally winds up using their fine-motor skills for the details. Most often, it is quite difficult to capture this movement of the moment by beginning with a fine-motor line drawing as the figure usually ends up looking stiff and oftentimes, out of proportion. Kanna has the ability to create, not only natural gesture, but expressive movement and it appears that she is doing this by directly using her fine-motor skills! THAT is pretty amazing!
It seems that she resonates deeply with the Anime characters and I imagine that the sweetly appealing and romantic feelings that these figures evoke is what is inspiring her to create what is going on within her soul. If I were to mentor her, I would try to inspire her to find a way to incorporate some the delightful qualities that she loves about these characters and make them "her's". For example, she may be deeply moved by their big, soul-filled eyes and that is fabulous, but I would encourage her to change one or two elements about those eyes, so they become HER creation
I think each piece is excellent, but I have chosen five that I LOVE the most! Musical Inspiration, Gaea, Hiead, The Last Air Bender and Sleepy Kanna and Kyoki all have a quality that indicate to me that a very deep part of her soul was being transferred to the drawing paper and I am very moved by them.
Dear Keoi... I cannot thank you enough for sharing Kanna's work with us and I would LOVE IT if you would share more as she continues on in her artistic journey! Your Granddaughter is very gifted and an obvious Delight... But wait...OF COURSE she IS...She has YOU for her Grandmother!!!
Wow Keoi! Fantastic art work, no wonder you are proud! I am too and she isn't even my grandaughter! Very good indeed!! She will go far with a talent like that
ps. I went through a stage of absolutely loving Anime art & films, my favourite was "Spirited Away" which I have on dvd. I will have to dig it out again Perfect for a rainy day like today!
Hi Keoi,
What a wonderful talent and gift your granddaughter has with her art work. I loved looking at all of her creations. She indeed is speaking from her heart and developing a wonderful connection to her 'self'.
I imagine her drawings feed her soul just as my poetry feeds mine. It is a great blessing to have at her fingertips supporting her throughout her journey.
Thank you for sharing!
This poem - Melancholy Moment is one I shared with the Mastermind group on Thursday. We had talked a lot about all of the energy work that has been going on over the past few months and that each of us needs to take time to let ourselves, our beings 'transition' to these higher vibrations we are experiencing. The harvest moon the other night and the strong pull of energy from the universe is being felt more so by a lot of us than perhaps we had noticed before. There is definitely a shift happening.
Remember to take time to 'allow' your being to absorb and ingest the shifting energies. Love yourself enough to 'REST" knowing that in this single moment everything is perfect and complete.
Moments of silent reflection
Internal vibration
Heart beat of healing
Mother Natures tender touch
Envelops my longing heart
Whisper of words
Unspoken
Melancholy moments
Magical grace
Spirit moves within and through
Blessing receiver and giver
In equal measure.
Thank you for all you beautiful comments onConna's art.
Pamela, Thank you for your eloquent post. You are also an amazing writer . I will share with Conna your suggestions. She is sort of starting to bring herself more into her art. For all of her friends birthday she draws a picture of them in her semi-anime style. Also, she is currently working on 2 new pictures that I have seen in the early stages. One has a very large moon in it and the other has the sun in it. I can't wait to see these two when she is finished. A couple of years ago I asked her if she could draw a tree, (we have great very old oak trees here), she told me at the time she couldn't draw trees they were to hard We all laughed, and told her people are harder...she doesn't think so!
Some of the characters she draws is her own...but honestly I have no idea which is which
Thank you Sonora and Cheeky ( I just love my nickname for you, it sounds so cute ),
She has been following the Anime stuff for quite a while now...actually we are all waiting for her to make the bridge to something else. LOL
