I agree with you, the A1c is not reserved just for poorly controlled diabetes. Was just pointing out that that is its primary use. It can be very useful in other situations (as you stated, a newly diagnosed diabetic, etc.) also.
When I was first diagnosed they either did not have that test available, or it was just because I live in podunk Mississippi that they did not bother with it.
After I was diagnosed and saw that I could keep my sugar levels down via diet and exercise I did not bother with Doctors opinions regarding diabetes much. (They all wanted me on insulin, and western medicine does not have a good long term track record with diabetes).
Because I did not want any long term damage to my body from elevated sugar levels, in the beginning months I tested my blood sugar as much as 15 times a day. Once I got the hang of what I could and could not eat to keep the blood sugar levels in the safe range I was testing only 3-4 times a day (for many years).
It can be a very discouraging condition, and traveling a lot only makes it more difficult. I know what your husband is feeling.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to see the PATHS module work. While I could go back to the restrictive diet if I had to, I certainly do NOT want to.
You know, since the PATHS Module instructions are in the audio and visual part of the presentation, you could play it on the speakers of your computer and he would not even know it was for him (just saying, in case he would not watch it on his own). You could just play it when he was in the room and he would still get the benefits.
