  • timing your spirulina intake

    Hi

    I was wondering how people time their daily dose?

    I'm currently exploring taking it at different times of the day to see how it affects me.

    Please share your tips n tricks

    Hi Kiran,

    If I take any spirulina or afa too late, it is more difficult to sleep.

    I take a few grams when I wake up and before lunch.

          I have found personally that if you take it past... say... 1 or 2 pm... I am awake all night! I take all of it first thing in the morning and if I do forget it... I will take it with lunch but NO later! It can seriously keep you awake!

            Spirulina and Stomach upset

            Does anyone have stomach problems with spirulina? Not to get into details but mine is really bloated. Any solutions?

              I didn't know that it can keep u awake ... Why is that ? I would love to know why, ....

              personally, i have no problems with it at all .. I take mine in the morning & at night, half of the doze here and half there ...

                Hi Inika ~

                Have you just started to take Spirulina or recently increased your dosage? This sometimes happens for the first week or so until your body gets used to it. Very similar to what happens if you suddenly start eating a high-fiber diet that your body is not accustomed to eating.

                Try cutting back a little and gradually building back up or try taking Gas-X or something similar

                  I first began taking my spirulina half before lunch & half in the late afternoon but I now take it all at once in the morning.

                  I also found that if I took it late in the afternoon I would be awake half the night.

                    I take mine after breakfast. I found that if I take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning it does have a tendency to make me a bit nauseas.

                    Spirulina has lots of vitamins and minerals in it, besides the amino acids needed for neurotransmitters. Here is a link to a breakdown of typical spirulina:

                      Thanks Pammie,

                      I have been taking it since Oct and have tried all kinds of things: Different kinds and different doses. Maybe I will try the GasX. I do a lot of greens like Wheat grass juice and no problem, but it is just the spirulina. I had the same problem when I tried blue green algae years ago. Chinese herbs do the same thing to me.

                            spirulina energizer

                            Hi Lama,

                            Spirulina is a whole food meaning it has a full spectrum of nutrients. It has extremely absorbable aminos, vitamins, minerals and some fatty acids. The body increases its functioning anytime it receives absorbable nutrients and will cause the person to be more energetic and I think it is simply this that causes some people to be too alert at bed time. Some people can take it at night and not have it affect their sleep but if I take it near bed time, it takes a bit longer to fall asleep.

                              If you look at Spirulina Nutritional Composition , you will see that there is a good amount of vitamin B12. It is commonly accepted that most people experience extra energy when taking B12. (actually all the B family of vitamins, inositol being right up there with b12)
