  • PATHS and Dyslexia?

    Hi everybody!

I'm very new here, and I found this wonderful forum via PI.
I had made a post there, and was directed by helpful people to this forum.
I'll make a quick copy/paste of my post there to start things off...

    Hi everybody!

I sure hope everybody is still keeping an eye on this thread!
I created a profile purely to be a part of this thread. I just discovered it about a week ago. I have moderate dyslexia, so it took me 4 or 5 days to read the entire thread.
All I can say is WOW!
So many mindblowing topics discussed on this thread. ALL of which have interested me for years!

I have so many questions, but I'll start off with just one.
Regarding PATHS, is there a chance that this program could be used to treat dyslexia? Or at least some of the symptoms? To my knowledge there is no real treatment, only ways to "cope" with it. I'm pretty sure there's no PATHS program set up for this, but I was curious if you thought it might be a possiblity.
I'd be more than happy to be a guinea pig if there was anything in development.

Ok, I'll leave it at that for right now. At least until I know that people are still keeping an eye on this thread. If so, then I'd love to get into more discussion about the increadible topics that have already been touched on.

    Take care, everybody!
    Ben

I have since found that there is indeed a module in development for dyslexia. For which I'm SUPER thrilled!
If anybody has any comments on the subject (or any other for that matter) PLEASE feel free to add to the conversation. Or even feel free to shoot me a PM.

And a big THANK YOU to everybody for being such a wonderful and supportive group! You all ROCK!

    Take care,
    Ben

      Paths and dyslexia

      Hi Ben,

Thanks for posting. I'll keep asking if there is anyone with testimonials on anything with dyslexia. I slightly recall someone who had improvement with just the academic supercharger module. There is the possibility of a custom for this.

Whatever I come across or find out, I'll post here.
      Sincerely,
      Aaron Murakami

Awesome! Sounds good. That was one of the modules I was interested in anyway, so that's good.

To answer the previous questions, I'm currently not on any PATHS modules at the moment. I'm trying to decide between all of the wonderful options. So much good stuff to choose from!

            Ben,

Kudos for hanging in there to read the entire thread. You're not the only one who has been bewildered by the number of excellent modules available. There seems to be agreement that choosing Self Esteem-Confidence Building, which removes doubt and self-destructive thought patterns, is an excellent first choice. Cognitive dissonance appears to be less of an issue during the early stages of viewing those modules that you ultimately choose.

It's good to see a fellow Midwesterner on the Forum! Don't hesitate to contact me if you prefer to talk rather than read my post...we're practically next door neighbors.

              module for dyslexia

              Hi Ben,

I heard that the dyslexia module was only in the drawing board stages since we haven't really had any request for it. Maybe 1-2 people in the last 1 year. Anyone can get it on a custom module I guess, but it may take a while for it to be developed as a regular module.

Have you every done any of the brain gym exercises? The teacher's edition book is the best one to get since it has explanations of the exercises and the orange book doesn't. It has helped many children with dyslexia.

Amazon.com: Brain Gym (Teachers Edition: Revised): Books: Paul E. Dennison,Gail E. Dennison

Many people overlook these exercises because of how simple they are but they have a long track record of being effective.
              Sincerely,
              Aaron Murakami

                Hi Aaron,

                Thanks for the update.
I have never heard of Brain Gym, but I'll definately look into it!
Kinda sucks that the dyslexia module won't be available for a while. Might be worth waiting for. In the meantime, I'll just have to start on some other great modules while I wait!

                  Brain Gym

The brain gym exercises are a lot of cross lateral movements to help balance the hemispheres of the brain. Before buying the book, you might find references online specifically to dyslexia and brain gym.
