  • Who are the healthiest

Just a thought that is trying to work its' way into my consciousness...

What group of people are the most healthy in the world?

As a group (of course there are exceptions), but as a group-

Who do you think is most healthy?

    Spiritually
    Mentally
    Emotionally
    Physically

I believe I know, but am interested to hear others thoughts.

    Kevin

Yeah, you might be right about the group that uses PATHS.

      A group...

Christians, Muslims, Atheists, vegetarians, vegans, meateaters, old, young, middle-age, wealthy, poor, middle-class, citizens of a particular country, or any other large group of people.

      What are your thoughts?

C'mon, it can't be that boring of a question, and I know that you ALL aren't such pansies that out of 27 views of this post no one has an opinion.

I would guess the Asian people. Meaning, people who still live in Asia, not those who now live in the West.

Perhaps the Japanese in particular. We know they live long lives (though I don't know the average life expextency - I should look it up). They eat a diet of mostly fish, rice and veggies. I believe most are Buddhists which is a calming, peaceful religion with not too many restricting and stressful rules.

They walk or ride bikes more than they drive cars. There family units are quite strong and they revere the elderly.

Anyway, that is my guess, the Japanese.

However, I do believe I have read on several occasions that the Scandinavian countries (Sweden and Denmark mostly) also have very healthy lifestyles and live a long life.

Part of that is due to their policies on healthcare, vacation, maternity leave, etc. They also have a healthy diet as far as I know.

        Great question Kevin!

          Good Quest

It is intriguing to consider secrets to longevity, and demographic studies have proven certain groups healthier than others.

Long life is probably more related to a personal choice and subject to ones inherited genes and environment.

Some good ideas here so far.

I tend to agree with both the regional and genetic points.

But from an overall standpoint and going back to the original question choices, I would say physical would follow mental.

Poor thinking makes you unhealthy. Stress and worry seriously affect your health, regardless of your physical regimen. I believe if your thinking is right the rest follows (yes PATHS people, we have a serious edge!).

As far as eating I think moderation is the key. Too much of anything can cause problems. Studies suggest vegetarians suffer similar mortality rates to meat eaters with the exception of heart disease, which could very well be fueled by the fat intake and lack of exercise.

Jeanne Calment from France, who died in 1997 at the ripe old age of 122 believed her "cheery disposition" kept her healthy and claimed she'd "die laughing". She rode her bike until she was 100 years old, and had a fairly normal diet with the exception of 2 things. She ate 2 pounds of chocolate a week and loved to drink wine.

Maybe my chocolate habit isn't so bad after all!

Any population whos drinking water is 7.5 and whos diet and environment supports a pH of 7.5.

                healthy living

I agree with Pamela that the Japanese might be the healthiest.

It was like this for years but I think the numbers might have come down a bit due to the introduction of more western food in the diet...trans fats, etc... McD's is just as popular there as it is here but for the most part most people eat traditional food. I lived there for 14 years off and on and have seen many changes in my short time there.

I have seen #'s of longevity for other countries that beat Japan but all within a year or so and this has only been so more recently.

Longevity doesn't necessarily mean healthy because someone can grow old and be suffering degenerative diseases but for the most part, the longer living people are also healthy.

One of the common denominators for longevity is undernourishment. Not malnourished but undernourished. That means they get all the right nutrients in the diet but eat small portions.

The diet in Japan is very healthy and even exercise is common for just about everyone. Many companies even start the day with all the employees doing stretches and other routines every morning because it is considered common sense that it improves productivity and reduces sick days as well as just plain being a smart thing to do. Also, it is common to nap depending on the job as it is in other countries. This is very healthy to let the food digest and to allow the body to relax some.

I worked construction over there and drove a dump truck. After lunch, we'd park at the work site and just nap for a half hour before getting back to work and this was not only accepted but encouraged strongly by my boss.

                Work hard - play hard
                Sincerely,
                Aaron Murakami

I have noticed that of the few brave souls that responded they are mostly focused on longevity of life.

This of course would relate to physical health on some levels.

                  My question is:

As a group (of course there are exceptions), but as a group-

Who do you think is most healthy?

                  Spiritually
                  Mentally
                  Emotionally
                  Physically

                  Anymore input?

This is a fun question. I have noticed that if some company comes out with a new supplement or gadget with magnets in it they find some data someplace showing that people in this country or that country live a long time because they are getting lots of whatever is being offered by the company.

I was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist church, and they say the diet they promote is the healhiest. They even have studies to prove it. Maybe so, but I did not see a lot of healthy people there.

From time to time I see news stories about some one who is celebrating their one hundreth birtday. The person always gives advise like "eat chocolate" or "smoke a cigar every day".

My personal belief is that people who are happy with simple things in life, like family and friends, will be the healthiest. I dont know if tere is an entire group like that, but PATHS has the potential to create one.

Just for fun I will commit and say the French, because they drink wine.
                    Love Mark.

I read the ZERO LIMITS book by Joe Vitale and Ihaleakala Hew Len PhD about Ho 'oponopono. When they met and later went to lunch Mr. Len suggested they go grab a burger at this one place in HI. Joe was surprised and said something like "Don't you eat healthy food with all you know?" Mr Len responded "I just send love to my food first before eating."

Hey Mark, I'm gonna have to say - the people of Sweden.
