It is not atypical to look at things in a negative (or "realistic" ) light. Society, media, etc. has done an effective job of making that seem the normal attitude to have.
Most people I talk to with a negative attitude don't even recognize they have one.

Being aware of ones feelings, and why the feelings exist can reduce the time spent in the change over to positive attitudes becoming the default.
