Have you ever said these sad words to yourself? Well, I have, many times. In fact, recently a long-held and long-treasured dream finally came true, and instead of making me happy, it only seemed to add more stress and pressure to my life. So naturally I've been pondering a lot about the nature of happiness, and what I can do to achieve it.
Today I was fortunate to stumble across this amazing video by a very wonderful author/speaker/Harvard psychologist called Dan Gilbert. It is about 20 minutes long, but it is funny, and well worth a look-over for anyone who has ever wondered, "what will make me happy?" (Hint: do not join the Beatles!)
In the past few months, I've come to see that happiness is something that comes from within, not from without. In other words, happiness is a choice! We don't need a reason to be happy. We can just decide to be happy and grateful with what we have. And according to Dr. Gilbert, we can synthesise (make) our own happiness, regardless of our circumstances.
Well. Your thoughts?
