  • No thought meditation

I've been practising meditation for about 6 months now. Though I feel calmer and more focused, I do not think I ever had a 'no thought' period.
Has anyone had a no thought experience? Can you describe what its like?

    no thought

    Good luck on your practices!!

Yes, the "no thought" is a sense of presence - just observing - and the judgment mind is non-active. You simply are able to observe things as they are (inside and outside of you) instead of what our judgment mind turns them into.
    Sincerely,
    Aaron Murakami

The Master-Key System is a book which gives instructions on this kind of meditation.

It talks about thought on different levels. For example it says to still the body so you can reduce the amount of thought having to do with moving your body.

Then it instructs on how to let go of thoughts relating to various states of being such as being hungry, angry, cold, etc.

I don't know if it is possible to eliminate all thought during meditation but I think it does give your mind a break from sensory overload and maybe lets it process things better for a bit.

It also gives it more of a chance to process things in a way that is not influenced by the usual patterns you might be caught up thinking in.

I'd probably be less concerned about whether I achieved times of non-thinking and just know that your mind is being helped by your meditation time.

          thanks guys

I guess I'm doing the right thing. One thing for sure, my attitude is a whole lot better and I have very interesting dreams which now I believe is the subconscience communicating with me.
I came across a post on binuarals. Any experience with those?

Again I will like to thank you guys for your posts.
Meditation has been a breeze as I am now able to maintain no thoughts for long periods of time. With my PATHS modules, I am also better able to control emotions, whatever they may be. I believe I have experienced the distinction of the mind and body. Its cool.

Over time I feel no thought meditation has been one of the most powerful tools I have for self development. That and PATHS are my top two and I feel they go hand in hand in certain ways. Or like they leap frog off each other.

The benefit for me of meditation has to do with being able to let go of negative thought patterns both in the immediate and also, at least somewhat, in the long term.

There are some emotions which are very uncomfortable and it doesn't take too long for me to figure out I can make improvement with some quiet letting go time.

Lately I've been realizing there are other emotions which are more subtly bothersome but add up over time. I've realized the importance of taking time to let those go as well.

For example boredom. That's one that gets to me little by little over time. Like a restlessness.

Trying to let go of all thoughts and then release boredom has seemed to work well to get me closer to goals lately.

It is interesting to look at the Abraham-Hicks Emotional Guidance Scale regarding certain emotions. Obviously we fluctuate and don't just stay in a certain emotion until the next and so on, but I guess what I get from it is that even seemingly benign emotions like impatience and boredom can be a block to the higher emotions.

              The Emotional Guidance Scale

              1. Joy/Appreciation/Empowered/Freedom/Love
              2. Passion
              3. Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
              4. Positive Expectation/Belief
              5. Optimism
              6. Hopefulness
              7. Contentment
              8. Boredom
              9. Pessimism
              10. Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
              11. Overwhelment
              12. Disappointment
              13. Doubt
              14. Worry
              15. Blame
              16. Discouragement
              17. Anger
              18. Revenge
              19. Hatred/Rage
              20. Jealousy
              21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
              22. Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness

I wanted to add this here. To help increase your awereness of living in the moment. IE. "No-thought meditating"

In a dark room light a candle. Simply gaze at the candle flame, breath slowly, etc... You will notice your thoughts will pop up in between your no-thought meditating. But that is simply it, given time and proper practicing you will be able to increase the "time" of your no-thought meditating.

I prefer gazing at the sun though. Solar Healing Center It's seems easier to have no thoughts while gazing at it, as compared to trying to have no-thought.
If you've made it this far then I've finally quit rambling.
