  • The Power of Questions

All day long that little voice in your head is talking to you, often in questions.

It's been said that the quality of the quality of those questions determines the quality of the results you get and therefore the quality of your life.

This is because asking good questions changes what you focus on.

My questions is - What is a good definition of what a good quality question is?

For me, a good quality question would be one that makes me think before I answer. It would be a question that I would not have a ready answer. And once I answered the question, I may even change my answer after hearing the answers of others.

It would be a question that would not be easily answered with a simple yes or no. If one were to choose to answer this way, she would almost feel as if she had to justify why she answered with a yes or a no.

It would be a question that people would possibly argue over, each giving very good reasons for their answers.

It would be a question I have never heard previously. It would evoke an emotional response. It would make me look forward to hearing the responses of others.

Many times it will be a question that is not confined to an answer that is traditional or accepted...one that does not attempt to make everything nice and neat to fit into the status quo.

Adrian, I put it to you that it's not the quality of the questions or the answers that matter more in determining the quality of our lives, but the cultivation of the ability to quiet the mind's voice and simply be at peace in a state of observant contentment or pure creativity.

However, questions are important too. Questions that we thought we knew the answer to but found we were mistaken are my favorite.

In many things, it's more the questions, not the answers

For me, it's about the questions, not the answers. There can be real power there...

It's asking things like: What is this showing me? Where am I being led? How might this situation be different? How can I be more fully present and respect the needs of others?

It's not so much the answers that matter as much as it is the journey of how and where we're being guided to move next.

I just tell folks, "Just follow the Yellow Brick Road." It worked for the Wizard of Oz and all of the questions there, didn't it? And in doing so, much was inner knowing was gleaned (found his heart, his courage, etc.)

            Just my .02.

There is something magical about young Children...the innocence, the wonder, the adventure, everything is exciting, the absence of the straight-jacket of pre-conceived ideas, and the never ending questions...they are in a constant state of learning, absorbing and living a fun adventure, called life.
