This is a movie which encompasses many legends and historical facts into one seamless story.
Even if the majority of it is true, I can say that every story is not presented 100% accurate.
That is because it gets the slant on the story of Jesus wrong in a way that has been one of my major pet peeves.
It tells that story as if the corrupt Hebrews/Jews in that story represent all Hebrews/Jews.
It gives the impression that Jesus and his family (while somehow taking place in all the Jewish religious traditions) were not themselves Jewish.
I was please to see the truth on wikipedia. I also know many Bible references that make this matter plain as day :
see Matthew 1:1-16 for the geneology of Jesus. It clear Abraham and many other well known Jews are in it, and it refers clearly to the "time of the exile to Babylon" which was part of Jewish history.
We also have the words of Paul:
1I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. 2God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don't you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: 3"Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me"[a]? 4And what was God's answer to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal."[b] 5So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. 6And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.[c] - Romans 11:1-6
Ask yourself why there was a need for an apostle to the gentiles. It's because the others were Jews teaching Jews. I have more examples in the Bible if anyone wants to know them.
The reason this matters to me is because bigotry against Jews is perpetuated by this mass misrepresentation of the story.
(Also the movie refers to Jesus' "false message." No the message was not false, many interpretations of it are though.)
It would be like if the world blamed "Americans" for the death of JFK.
Rather JFK was a great American loved by thousands of Americans, killed by a few corrupt Americans (well that may be debatable).
It also bothers me that this movie acts as if all Bibles today have been altered. There are versions available where groups have taken painstaking measures to use the original Hebrew and Greek texts and give an unbiased translation. The New International Version is one. Perhaps information is missing beause it was unavailable, but I think the translation of what is available is pretty right on.
Anyway all that was just a very small part of this movie.
But my point is that there could be some things in this skewed a little wrong.
You may find that statement very funny given all the wild information in this movie!!!
