    Hi all

    The question I am asking is whether or not numbers are fundamental to the structure of nature/reality. Or did "we" invent the "concept" of numbers?

    I hope its not breaking forum rules by linking to an external site but I thought it might be easier to signpost you to information that has already been uploaded - until I wrap my head around this forum "set-up", I will transfer the information onto this site - if its welcome.

    I welcome your thoughts and any discussion back here.

      In my understanding, numbers are just a physical representation of a virtual structure. Numbers dont actually exist in reality, they are a way for us to define the properties of reality. Numbers themselves are meaningless, just symbols like our english language.

        Indeed numbers are symbols... words, math and hieroglyphics all carry information, although it could be argued the information is open to individual interpretation, unless otherwise agreed upon as a consensus by many.

        When you look at the symbols below what information do you see, a linear count generating infinite single values or cycles generating infinite variations of the same fundamental values, or maybe both?

          I'm not sure what you mean, personally, i see a list of defined properties with undertermined objects. The numbers would be defining the properties of the objects, weather they be units or spaces.

          I took a look at that spiral numbers link and its pretty interesting. It's cool to see the patterns, considering your placing the numbers with the exact spacing along the spiral. There doesnt seem to be much significance to me though. You could create many different patterns with different parameters on the spiral. Numbers themselves are all relative to each other and always produce patterns, i just dont see how they relate to reality.

          I only know mathematics up through algerbra so you and others can probably comprehend sequences more than i can. Its a very interesting subject, im glad you brought it up, i'll have to do some reading.

            Nadda, thank you for taking the time to look at the other thread.

            I wouldn't say that being unable to define information makes it empty or non existence, nor is something right because lots of people believe it. We used to believe the world was flat, or that earth was at the centre of the universe and everything revolved around us, there were also plenty of eminent men at the turn of the 20th century that had the math to prove heavier than air flight was impossible...

            You said you could create many different patterns with different parameters on the spiral... I'd like to see that...

            My visual pattern is two opposing vortices shown by the wave-like movement of the numbers, this was created by using a circle of numbers, addition and casting out nines.

            The pattern also seems to represent a digital version of a plasma discharge. Separate from that "fzzzy" who joined the thread posted the same pattern he found running through the Mayan calender?
