I think about being able to affirm,without shades of doubt, that all of that is alive and vital, is expressed with rhythmic functions. If there is no Rhythm, life cannot exist.

But what is the Rhythm in itself?

There are so many types of rhythms in nature: the diurnal and nighttime Rhythm that alternates the passage of the night a day and vice versa; the monthly Rhythm of the Moon; the Rhythm of the seasons,...

In the man there is the cardiac Rhythm, the respiratory Rhythm, that digestive, etc. etc.

It can be said that the presence of the Rhythm not only characterizes the existence of the living beings, but also of all that appears in the created Universe.

If we want to give the more possible synthetic definition of the Rhythm, we should say that it consists in an external alternate motion, that can have the form of a cyclical motion, both parabolic and spiral shaped, that expresses an inside Pulsation that expands and contracts continuously.

Now if the Pulsation is the inside aspect and therefore the hidden part of the Rhythm,the rhythmical spatial exterior movement of varing aspect, that manifests itself in less or more rapid succession, is all that can be known in apparent way,from the senses of a human being.
From that,our senses gain only what derives from that is external, and therefore superficial of the Rhythm, and this sets a notable limit between the man and the true knowledge than surrounds him.

But in our time dominated by a materialistic mentality that believes only in what we can see and touch with the hands, also interpreting it in the most different ways, who will believe in our words, to an energetic and therefore spiritual vision of the life, the only one that can melt in the harmonious Unity of the Reality all the contrasts and the contradictions?

Dragon Basics

The Asian Dragon in general tends to appear more serpentine than the dragons of the west. I’m not sure exactly what that means in terms of dragon type vis a vis Constellation Ophiuchus. But I mention it just the same.

Here is some information on the Chinese Dragon (since it’s the Chinese Water Dragon that is being celebrated this year) that you can use whether you are Ophiuchus or not. This will help connect all dragonkind with the Chinese Year of the Water Dragon 2012, the Zodiac Dragon which is Celestial, and the Celestial Ophiuchus Dragon which is a specific vibration of the Celestial Zodiac Dragon.

Types of Chinese Dragons

There are nine major types of Chinese dragons. These include the horned dragon, the winged dragon, the celestial dragon (which supports and protects the mansions of the gods), the spiritual dragon which generates wind and rain for the benefit of mankind), the dragon of hidden treasures (which keeps guard over concealed wealth), the coiling dragon (which lives in water), and the yellow dragon (which once emerged from water and presented the legendary Emperor Fu Shi with the elements of writing)

The last of the nine is the dragon king, which actually consists of four separate dragons, each of which rules over one of the four seas, those of the east, south, west, and north.

The most powerful generalized type of Chinese dragon is the horned dragon, or lung, which can produce rain and is totally deaf. Additionally, there is a homeless dragon (Ii) that lives in the ocean and another type (chiao) that is scale-covered and usually inhabits marshes but also keeps dens in the mountains.

There are also nine ways the Chinese have traditionally represented these dragons, each one revealing a different dragon characteristic.

There are dragons carved on the tops of bells and gongs, because of the beast’s habit of calling loudly when attacked.

A second type is carved on the screws of fiddles, since most dragons are fond of music.

A third is carved on the tops of stone tablets, because of dragons’ love of literature.

A fourth is found at the bottom of stone monuments, as dragons can support heavy weights.

A fifth is placed on the eaves of temples, as dragons are ever alert to danger.

A sixth occurs on the beams of bridges, since dragons are fond of water.

A seventh is carved on Buddha’s throne, as dragons like to rest.

An eighth is placed on the hilts of swords, since dragons are known to be capable of slaughter.

The ninth is carved on prison gates, as these are dragons that are fond of quarreling and trouble making. (lock your anger kind of analogy )

The colors of Chinese dragons are evidently quite variable, but in the case of the chiao type its back is striped with green, its sides are yellow, and it is crimson underneath.

The nine major characteristics of a lung type dragon include a head like a camel’s, horns like a deer’s, eyes like a hare’s, ears like a bull’s, a neck like an iguana’s, a belly like a frog’s, scales like a carp’s, paws like a tiger’s, and claws like an eagle’s. It has a pair of large canine teeth in its upper jaw. The long, tendril-like whiskers extending from either side of its mouth are probably used for feeling its way along the bottom of muddy ponds.

Magnetic turbulence trumps collisions to heat solar wind

(Phys.org) -- New research, led by University of Warwick physicist Dr Kareem Osman, has provided significant insight into how the solar wind heats up when it should not. The solar wind rushes outwards from the raging inferno that is our Sun, but from then on the wind should only get cooler as it expands beyond our solar system since there are no particle collisions to dissipate energy. However, the solar wind is surprisingly hotter than it should be, which has puzzled scientists for decades. Two new research papers led by Dr Osman may have solved that puzzle.

Turbulence pervades the universe, being found in stars, stellar winds, accretion disks, galaxies, and even the material between galaxies. It also plays a critical role in the evolution of many laboratory plasmas, causing diminished confinement times in fusion devices. Therefore, understanding plasma turbulence is essential to the interpretation of a large body of laboratory, space, and astrophysical observations. The solar wind and near-Earth environment provide an excellent laboratory for the study of turbulence, and are the only in-situ accessible astrophysical plasmas.

The solar wind is much hotter than would be expected if it were just expanding outward from the Sun. Turbulence is the likely source of this heating. For neutral fluids such as fast flowing water, energy dissipation occurs through many microscopic collisions. As is the case for many astrophysical plasmas, the near-Earth solar wind is thin and spread out, which means collisions between particles are rare to the point that the plasma is considered collisionless. A major outstanding problem is how, in the absence of those collisions, does plasma turbulence move energy to small scales to heat the solar wind.

The new research led by Dr. Kareem Osman at the University of Warwick's Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics has revealed how turbulence heats the solar wind. He says:

"Turbulence stretches and bends magnetic field lines, and often two oppositely directed field lines can come together to form a current sheet. These current sheets, which are distributed randomly in space( at their level of knowledge it is random ) could be sites where the magnetic field snaps and reconnects transferring energy to particle heating. There are also many more ways that current sheets can heat and accelerate the plasma."

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pineal removal on oxytocin synthesis in the hypothalamus using the colchicine method. To this end, rats were injected intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) with colchicine solution (5 microg/5 microl) or normal saline and decapitated 20 h later. The animals were either pinealectomized or sham-operated two or eight weeks before i.c.v. injection. The oxytocin content in the hypothalamus was significantly higher in colchicine-treated rats whereas no significant differences were seen in the neurohypophysial hormone level between saline- or colchicine-injected animals. Thus, colchicine inhibited the hormonal transport but probably did not affect the function of the neurohypophysis. Two weeks after pinealectomy neither the oxytocin synthesis rate nor its neurohypophysial content were significantly different from control values. The oxytocin synthesis rate was increased markedly eight weeks after pineal removal. At that time, the neurohypophysial oxytocin content was reduced suggesting the increased secretion of the hormone. It is concluded that the pineal has an inhibitory impact on both oxytocin synthesis and release.

Sexist men and women -- made for each other?

ScienceDaily (Aug. 24, 2011) — Men with a preference for 'one-night stands' and negative sexist attitudes towards women are more likely to use aggressive courtship strategies. They compete with other men who are also interested in the woman, tease the woman, and isolate her away from her friends. In response, women with a preference for 'no strings attached' sex and negative attitudes towards other women are more likely to respond to men's aggressive strategies. These findings by Jeffrey Hall and Melanie Canterberry, from the University of Kansas in the US, are published online in Springer's journal Sex Roles.

Original Title: Venus-Neptune contacts and the divinity of love

Many astrologers like to emphasize the illusory nature that characterizes Venus-Neptune aspects. Apparently Venus-Neptune people don’t like the mundane, daily gestures that mark a long term relationship, they say. These people need fantasy, romance, escape. They’d rather pine than have the real deal. While that can be true, I’d add that those aspects present the possibility of having a direct romantic relationship (Venus) with the divine (Neptune). This is hardly a fantasy relationship, even if it doesn’t involve a blood and flesh human. Moreover, maintaining this relationship requires incredible discipline exacted upon a quotidian level.

A perfect example of this can be found in celebrated female Christian mystics. I looked at the natal charts of four famous women in the Middle Ages who had notable numinous experiences, and discovered three had Venus-Neptune contacts and to my surprize, all had at least one or more aspects that would indicate a strong libido or a more intense sexuality (e.g. Venus-Pluto, Mars-Venus, Mars-Pluto). While three examples hardly make a rule and the data may be debatable given how old these women are, it’s fair to say that finding birth data for such women is rare, and three for four isn’t bad.

1) The most famous example, the young Joan of Arc, claimed to have received visions from god. While I don’t recall any documents specifying any perceived romantic relationship with Christ, this warrior Capricorn sun had an unshakable faith in her communication with god. Her chart features a Venus-Neptune opposition in Capricorn-Cancer. Other interesting aspects include (in order of widening orb) a Venus-Mars trine, a Mars-Neptune sextile and a Mars-Pluto square.

2) Julian of Norwich was one of the most famous anchoresses of her time. She had an out of sign Venus-Neptune trine in Libra-Capricorn respectively. Other Key aspects in her natal include a Mars-Neptune square and a Venus-Pluto opposition. Her mystical writings, Sixteen Revelations of Divine Love are available on wikipedia and detail a very intimate relationship with god. Interestingly, she attributed both female and masculine traits to god, sometimes refering to god the mother.

I saw that God rejoiceth that He is our Father, and God rejoiceth that He is our Mother, and God rejoiceth that He is our Very Spouse and our soul is His loved Wife.


3) Catherine of Sienna was an Italian prioress. She had a Venus-Neptune square in Taurus-Aquarius. Other aspects: Venus-Mars sextile (with Pluto at the mid-point) and a Venus-Saturn sextile. You can read some of her writings at Drawn by Love. A very insightful excerpt:

I long to see you so totally ablaze with loving fire that you become one with gentle First truth. Truly the soul’s being united with and transformed into him is like fire consuming the dampness in logs. Once the logs are heated through and through, the fire burns and changes them into itself, giving them its own color and warmth and power.

4) Our final case lacks a Neptune-Venus contact. Teresa of Ávila was a Spanish mystic with a fierce Aries sun (trine Pluto) which was conjunct a very active Venus. Notable aspects include a Venus-Mars sextile, Venus-Saturn trine, Venus-Pluto square and Venus-Jupiter sextile. How intense and passionate was her relationship with Christ?

I saw in his hand a long spear of gold, and at the iron’s point there seemed to be a little fire. He appeared to me to be thrusting it at times into my heart, and to pierce my very entrails; when he drew it out, he seemed to draw them out also, and to leave me all on fire with a great love of God. Personally I find that much hotter than what the best contemporary sex writers out there can come up with. But that’s just my opinion and I admit I do have Venus-Neptune conj in Sag. (And a Venus-Pluto sexile plus a strongly placed Mars squaring Pluto and trining Jupiter among other things…) While I doubt I’ll ever join the ranks of Christian saints and mystics, I do think romantic love in a relationship (Venus) is like a divine (Neptune) fire (Sag) that you must tend to. You submit to this task, this daily devotion of tending the fire with discipline, with compassion, with integrity, and all such things because it is a gift from the gods and one of the most powerful offerings you can return to the divine. For this Venus-Neptune native, there is no true love unless you are already in love with god.

Abstract:

The purpose was to discover whether fluoride (F) accumulates in the pineal gland and thereby affects pineal physiology during early development. The [F] of 11 aged human pineals and corresponding muscle were determined using the F-electrode following HMDS/acid diffusion. The mean [F] of pineal gland was significantly higher (p < 0.001) than muscle: 296 + 257 vs 0.5 + 0.4 mg/kg respectively. Secondly, a controlled longitudinal experimental study was carried out to discover whether F affects the biosynthesis of melatonin, (MT), during pubertal development using the excretion rate of urinary 6-sulphatoxymelatonin, (aMT6s), as the index of pineal MT synthesis. Urine was collected at 3-hourly intervals over 48 hours from two groups of gerbils, (Meriones unguiculatus), low-F (LF) and high-F (HF) (12 f, 12 m/group): under LD: 12 12, from prepubescence to reproductive maturity (at 9-12 weeks) to adulthood, i.e., at 7, 9, 11 1/2 and 16 weeks. The HF pups received 2.3 ug F/g BW/day from birth until 24 days whereafter HF and LF groups received food containing 37 and 7 mg F/kg respectively and distilled water. Urinary aMT6s levels were measured by radioimmunoassay. The HF group excreted significantly less aMT6s than the LF group until the age of sexual maturation. At 11 1/2 weeks, the circadian profile of aMT6s by the HF males was significantly diminished but, by 16 weeks, was equivalent to the LF males. In conclusion, F inhibits pineal MT synthesis in gerbils up until the time of sexual maturation. Finally, F was associated with a significant acceleration of pubertal development in female gerbils using body weights, age of vaginal opening and accelerated development of the ventral gland. At 16 weeks, the mean testes weight of HF males was significantly less (p < 0.002) than that of the LF males. The results suggest that F is associated with low circulating levels of MT and this leads to an accelerated sexual maturation in female gerbils. The results strengthen the hypothesis that the pineal has a role in pubertal development.
