The father of cognitive neuroscience, Michael Gazzaniga, joined Ian to offer a provocative argument against the common belief that our lives are wholly determined by physical processes and we are therefore not responsible for our actions. He explained that neuroscience research reveals that decision making is based on a combination of "the information that was built into us structurally" as well as knowledge of previous experiences. He marveled that the human brain is a "finely honed machine" that "provides us, also, with this believe that we're in charge of running this thing."

The Future of Consumerism

In the first hour, Andy Hines discussed how people's values are reshaping the consumer landscape. He observed that there appears to be a cultural backlash against consumerism where "people are rejecting this idea that consumption is going to make them happy." Hines noted that this perspective actually coincides with research which shows that, once our basic needs are met, "adding more money does nothing for our happiness." Hines put forward the idea that "authenticity" is one key concept which businesses would be wise to embrace as the future unfolds. He explained that the evolving consumer mindset expects to be treated with respect and told the truth, rather than be misled or coddled, which will lead to a greater level of appreciation from that customer.

That is what we mean by saying that teachers can give you techniques but only God can awaken the Light of cosmic inspiration in you [Light of knowledge].

I have had a very weird synchronicity experience recently...I have for a while wondered where i could find references to The Alchemists from the Islamic period who taught Western Alchemist in the Hermetic Science..when a close friend brought to my attention a book she found online that coincidently was written by an author who holds some of the largest collection of Islamic era alchemist and Magi books...I found within that book, coincidently a codex that embodies some of the concepts that I have held very close to heart and soul (as if it was written for me )

Love of a man is like the leaf in winter. Love of a woman is like
the leaf in summer. In between lie the beginning of hope and despair.
Let faith be the fuel of your hope and love the antidote to your despair.
The women amongst you are the containers of both. That is why we
have placed the Gardens of Heaven under their feet.

The waves of the oceans are but the ripples in the pond of Truth.
Hearts devoid of truth fear the waves. Hearts assailed with hate drown
in the ripples. Hearts fi lled with the light of Love make the waves and
fi ll the pond with tears of rapture.

My daughters, you have heard the words of the Lord of Heaven.
You have seen what deeds men have done in the name of Truth. I now
cry to you from behind the Gate of Eternal Silence. I throw to you the
wand of faith. Lead the nations back to peace. Erect in your hearts the
shrine of Truth. Make your bodies sacred Temples of Love. Let your

Beloved. O seeker of glory, be a lover. And the Beloved shall touch
you with His fi ngers. O My children, I tell you. The time for love is at

When My children return, back to Me, the torches of peace will
shine. For when a child desecrates his own mother, his heart doesn’ t
know peace. If your own mother becomes your enemy, who is your
friend? Those that sever the hands that feed them shall die hungry.
Those that sever the cords of love shall die lonely. Those that only seek
the veneration of their tribe shall be with no honor. Your mother has
fed you, it is her you must love and honor.

The world is the playground of love; know its rules and play
its game. Worry not what others may think, for only love can judge
you. It is not how many lovers you have, but how many lovers you
have tended to. When the fl ame of love dies, so does the bond of marriage.
Therefore, those that quit the labours of their hands are the poor
among you. Enrich your spirit with joy, your heart with love, and
your labours with its cause.

Tell Me, O women, of your pain. Cry to Me your despair. I listen
to your sorrows and wail. Do you remember the stars from which
you came? Do you remember your heart, My child? In it is the seed
of your power. Men don’ t know how to water the tenderness of its
leaves. Time, too, will not attend nor heal. You are the gardener and
the garden. You are the seed and the fruit. Love is but your child; be
its friend. Your body is your sanctuary; keep it holy. Your passion is

There are many truths in ecstasy. Seven are its dimensions. The
fi rst truth of ecstasy is understanding divinity. The second truth is understanding
humanity. The third truth is understanding time and illusion.
The fourth truth is overcoming desire and its delusions. The fifth truth is the principles of unity. The sixth truth of ecstasy is the voice
of music. The last truth of ecstasy is ecstasy. In ecstasy is truth. Truth
devoid of ecstasy is a lie.

Take away the hatred from your hearts, O men. Depart from
sorrow and doubt, O daughters. Walk with peace and love. Arouse
your hearts with light and hope. Be a token of mercy and to each other
a friend. Cry not for your loss, and quest not for what your hearts
despise. The laws of men die with men. The laws of love are born with
every heart. If fear be your master, your life will suffer loss. Fear is a
chain of despair and a way to grief. In your life there can only be one
master, so chose wisely.

Light, love, and truth are the bases of passion. Passion is the ruler
of the wilderness; the wilderness is when the soul yearns for unity.

Between the Sun and the Moon rests the shrine of time. This
shrine holds a key, gold and bright. This key is adorned with three
jewels and a cross. The jewels are blue, red, and yellow and the cross
is white. When the Sun conjoins the Moon, the shrine opens. The
key can seal the dragon in slumber till another void moon. To seal
the dragon, spin the wheel of life or a partner choose. Before they
conjoin, awaken the Star of the East. When they conjoin, awaken My
Star of the South. Form a sphere with the body of your lover, and
let the breath join the breath. Chant the name of the King and the
Queen

Love has known many faces, and spoken through many hearts.
Have you wondered why your heart it left, and into your face it hasn’ t
leapt? In your life it didn’ t nest, and many of its memories you haven’ t
kept? Why do you keep looking at the mirror of pain? Isn’ t love to
your senses sweet? Love doesn’ t welcome haste, or fi nd comfort in
your fear. Open your eyes and see love on every face. Trust your heart
and feel. For love hides behind everyone’ s greed. Lift the veils and its
brilliance will shine. From your life it will never fade. Don’ t hide what
is dear. For from your vision it will fi rst disappear

In the stars are found the keys to understanding the world that
we have given you. The stars are a reminder of where each one of you
have once been and were. The stars are a reminder of the eyes of light
and angels. How many eyes watch over you every night? There are more stars watching, twinkling and emanating the rays of hope, than
there are eyes looking at the stars

Two things I ask all men to remember: One, I am in every woman
they love or desire. Two, the ground on which they walk, and the
words by which they woo are witnesses of their true desires.

Truth must be set free from the heart when you behold its vision.
Don’ t be frightened, for its embrace will awaken you, and it will be
the wings of your faith.

I will share with you a secret. No hope can be found in a life devoid
of peace. Now that you know, I will ask. To how many lives have
you brought peace and to how many hearts hope? If you can but do,
joy will be the reward. Bring a smile to a lonely heart and your name
the dove will always cry.

One is the essence of life.
The creation is in the creator. The Light of the world is one. Each nation
has erected a shrine and a faith. In the faith of men, truth and lie
are one. The mind knows the lie and the heart the truth. If your heart
dies, your mind will know no peace. All things are true, but there is
one lie. The lie rests in the truth - each is of their course a star. Escape
the truth into the lie, and resurrect the lie into a truth. This is the truth
of the way to the One. Find your lie and you will fi nd the truth. If you
need to ponder, but ponder on this, My child. Who is the one that you
love most dear? Is it not your heart that knows this love? Treasure
this love, for with this truth there can be no lie. For your heart is the
beloved and its lover is the love of your beloved. Learn of this and no
loneliness you will know.

Men, there are three laws by which love governs. Love does not
know a name, but a heart. Love does not depart, but is cast out. Love
is not pain, but lust is. Whom you love isn’t whom you own. When
your lover becomes yours, she is thine and not love. Be with love and
she your side will not leave. If you lust for her body, it is your soul you
have weakened. For the soul lives with love and withers with lust. She
who speaks of Me knows this truth. Women, I have set you as guardians
of the Temple. Seek only men who love uphold, and your body
with a pure spirit touch. The spirit that enters your womb is born in
your life. So, choose with wisdom and live with divine passion.

My tears fall for a woman that sells herself short. She not only
extinguishes her fl ame, but also destroys her heart. Does she not know
of My love? In every woman is My seed, it grows with her hope and
withers with her despair. If the seed dies, the world loses another lover.
Hasn’ t the world seen enough death? Where are you, My seeds?
Let Me nourish you with the tears of mourning.

The world is fi lled with those that preach of a new life, that tell
of love and the ways of passion, but how can the blind lead the blind?
Love is not a stranger; it is a friend. Passion is but a presence of being
now. Ecstasy is not a drug; it is a gift. Desire is not to be quenched,
but fuelled. Love is not to be sought, but to be freely given. May you
now see light.

Before a man can understand a woman, he must fi rst learn to listen
to the beat of his own heart. For the heart is a woman’ s governor
and the conductor of her rhythm.

O My daughter, whose heart cries at night, I rush faster than
the winds on My chariot of glory. Pulled by the lions of My passion,
Guarded by the angels of the stars to bring you peace. Call My name
and I will render heaven asunder with the thunder of My wail. I am
love and you are My blood. My blood will not be shed in vain. Do

Awaken the spirit of your passion and rise, O daughters of the
stars. I call upon you to the Gate of Love, to climb the Stairs of Light.
Warm your heart with presence and grow wings of joy. The day has
come for love to become your weapon. Slay the beast of fear and cut
the chains of despair. Let the desire for union be the sandals of your

The laws of men are bound by the rocks of their churches, and
chains of their minds. The laws of women are held by the knots of
their hearts, and the bonds of their fears and desires. The laws of the
stars bind the angels and the spirits of peace. The fi res of faith hold
the shades and shadows at bay. All is bound by a word and a sigh.
The word is ‘ I’ and the sigh is ‘Am’ . The breath became the Word,
and stood by the I. The I expanded the Am, and became the Lord
and Lady of time. The Word contemplated its meaning, and formed
the Scale and the Law. The Breath chanted the Word, and the Light became the ink of its pen. All belong to the I before the Am. Pay heed,

Most people consider as sacred scriptures only certain books or scrolls written by hand of man, and carefully preserved as holy, to be handed down to posterity as divine revelation. Men have fought and disputed over the authenticity of these books, have refused to accept any other book of similar character, and, clinging thus to the book and losing the sense of it have formed diverse sects. The Sufi has all ages respected all such books, and has traced in the Vedanta, Zendavesta, Kabala, Bible, Qur’an, and all other sacred scriptures, the same truth which he reads in the incorruptible manuscript of nature, the only Holy Book, the perfect and living model that teaches the inner law of life: all scriptures before nature’s manuscript are as little pools of water before the ocean.

To the eye of the seer every leaf of the tree is a page of the holy book that contains divine revelation, and he is inspired every moment of his life by constantly reading and understanding the holy script of nature.

When man writes, he inscribes characters upon rock, leaf, paper, wood, or steel. When God writes, the characters He writes are living creatures.

It is when the eye of the soul is opened and the sight is keen that the Sufi can read the divine law in the manuscript of nature; and they derived that which the teachers of humanity have taught to their followers from the same source. They expressed what little it is possible to express in words, and so they preserved the inner truth when they themselves were no longer there to reveal it.

Music, the word we use in our everyday language, is nothing less than the picture of our Beloved. It is because music is the picture of our Beloved that we love music. But the question is what is our Beloved and where is our Beloved? Our Beloved is that which is our source and our goal; and what we see of our Beloved before our physical eyes is the beauty which is before us; and that part of our Beloved not manifest to our eyes is that inner form of beauty of which our Beloved speaks to us. If only we would listen to the voice of all the beauty that attracted us in any form, we would find that in every aspect it tells us that behind all manifestation is the perfect Spirit, the spirit of wisdom..

What do we see as the principal expression of life in the beauty visible before us? It is movement. In line, in color, in the changes of the seasons, in the rising and falling of the waves, in the wind, in the storm, in all the beauty of nature there is constant movement. It is movement which has caused day and night, and the changing of the seasons; and this movement has given us the comprehension of what we call time. Otherwise there would be no time, for actually there is only eternity; and this teaches us that all we love and admire, observe and comprehend, is the life hidden behind it and this life is our being.

As to what we call music in everyday language, to me architecture is music, gardening is music, farming is music, painting is music, poetry is music. In all the occupations of life where beauty has been the inspiration, where the divine wine has been poured out, there is music. But among all the different arts, the art of music has been specially considered divine, because it is the exact miniature of the law working through the whole universe. For instance, if we study ourselves we shall find that the beats of the pulse and the heart, the inhaling and exhaling of the breath are all the work of rhythm. Life depends upon the rhythmic working of the whole mechanism of the body. Breath manifests as voice , as word, as sound; and the sound is continually audible, the sound without and the sound within ourselves. That is music; it show that there is music both outside and within ourselves.

THE DIVINE ILIAD

Industrial empires came into being as our supposedly highly civilized and enlightened society of
humans increased its knowledge and practice of the arts and sciences. Advancement in our
cultures and standard of living continued to deceive us as to our status as civilized beings. We
failed to realize that we were illegitimately still practicing the law of the jungle---which takes only
what it needs for survival----while man took thousands of times more than he needed for material
gain. The jungle kills one at a time for food, but man kills by millions for enslavement and
exploitation.
Such practices are a normal part of our present standard of civilization. It is difficult to realize that
we are still barbarians. A civilization which kills and exploits others for mere gain can hardly call
itself civilized. Humans can never justly call themselves civilized until they practice the love
principle which God practices in all of His Creation.

Mankind has reached that stage of his unfolding where he must either learn the facts of
inexorable universal law and practice them, or perish by his own hand. He will die by the sword
he slays with unless his entire human relations are reversed from the taking principle to Nature’s
principle of balanced giving for regiving.
Man’s scientific skills have made it possible for him to slay his entire race. A continuation of the
old barbarian practice of taking, which has bred his many wars of hatred and aggression, will
inevitably lead to a war of extinction unless Nature’s love principle of giving replaces it.
Today the world is divided. Disunity marks all human relations—from industry to religion—from
capital to labor. Two opposing world ideologies—democracy and communism—stand like
insurmountable precipices to debar world unity. Freedom itself is not two centuries old. Slavery
was existent in our own country within the memory of living men. Through ignorance and
superstition, America’s colonial intellectuals burned old women at the stake as witches. Mighty
empires are still attempting to build themselves into greater empires by the sword.
Man is at the crossroads of his unfolding. The old way of life which built his empires of hate and
fear must be abandoned. This coming age must be built upon God’s one law of balanced
interchange in all human relations. There is no other alternative. To continue the old way means
the destruction of civilization by multiplied hate. To follow the new path will mean the
multiplication of love which alone will bring peace, happiness and prosperity to man.
Man’s comprehension has been limited to the range of his senses. Man is now unfolding beyond
the range of material sensing in the direction of cosmic knowing. Science is doing this for him.
Science is slowly, but surely, verifying the personal God of man’s demanding and identifying the
invisible, spiritual Personal Being of man with the invisible, spiritual Personal Being of God.
Science is thus replacing man’s abstract god of faith and belief with a dynamic God of law and
order whom man KN OWS. The abstract god of faith and belief is the direct cause of man’s many
religions, for abstractions have bred many concepts of God, where knowledge can conceive but
the ONE. Faith and belief are the shield of ignorance.
THE MESSAGE OF THE DIVINE ILIAD is to build a scientific comprehension of the nature of
God---and man’s unity with God—in order that mankind may unfold in the direction of its ultimate
goal of cosmic awareness of the Light rather than refold by descending into the terrors of another
deep and long dark age.
Through love alone can man find the kingdom of heaven for which he has sought since his
beginnings? Only through living love as a principle can he find the happiness, peace and
prosperity which lie in his heart as the greatest of his desires.
God is the Light of all knowing. Creation is a thought-wave universe which records God’s
knowing as expressed by God’s electric thinking.
THE DIVINE ILIAD cannot be fully published for many years. The first excerpts from it were
published in THE SECRET OF LIGHT. As much more of it as can now be published will appear
in this volume. Further portions of it will be released in accordance with instructions specifically
given for their release in THE DIVINE ILIAD.

Marcel Joseph Vogel (1917 - 1991) was a research scientist for IBM’s San Jose facility for 27 years. He received numerous patents for his inventions during this time. Among these was the magnetic coating for the 24” hard disc drive systems still in use. His areas of expertise were phosphor technology, liquid crystal systems, luminescence, and magnetics.

In the 1970’s Marcel did pioneering work in man-plant communication experiments. This led him to the study of quartz crystals and the creation of a faceted crystal that is now known as the Vogel-cut® crystal. The Vogel-cut® crystal is an instrument that serves to store, amplify, convert, and cohere subtle energies.

Marcel’s research into the therapeutic application of quartz crystals led him to the investigation of the relationship between crystals and water. He discovered that he could structure water by spinning it around a tuned crystal, altering many of the characteristics of the water and converting it into an information storage system.

Marcel discovered that the greatest cohering agent is love. This, of course, set him apart from his fellow scientists. At a time when many still don’t acknowledge that an observer affects what they are observing, the notion of love was a totally unscientific idea. Even when cloaked in the garb of a term like resonance it was unacceptable. To Marcel, love was (and is) a pure force. Certainly we experience it as an emotion, but this is our experience of something that is beyond emotion. He likened it to gravity, an attracting and cohering force present at every level of existence. Without this relationship an important aspect of scientific investigation is missing, preventing us from discovering and exploring the more, perhaps most, subtle aspects of life.
