• h2g2 - The Samurai Sword - A364213

The History

The swords constructed for the Samurai were thought to have powers and lives of their own. Mythology gives the creation of the first sword as a weapon created by the god Izanagi who used it to kill his son the Fire God. This was because he had caused Inzanami, his mother, such extreme pain at birth that she abandoned Inzanagi, and crept away to the underworld. Inzanagi also had a daughter, Amaterasa Omikami, the Sun Goddess, who gave the sword to her grandson Ninigi-no Mikoto. He was given this to reign on Earth, and this was the first sword to arrive in Japan, according to mythology.

The sword obviously meant a lot more than just a weapon to the Samurai. They showed respect to the sword and even developed a strict code of etiquette for handling and maintaining them. Soldiers defeated in battle prayed at the shrines of the War God Hachiman, asking why their swords had lost their spirit.

Because of the importance of the sword and the mystical significance attached to them, the swordsmith was an honoured and highly respected class. The swordsmith was a very dedicated and religious man who took great pride in his work.

One of the great things about the Samurai sword is the keen sharpness of the blade. One story tells about famous swordsmiths who were considered almost equal in skill. They decided to have a contest to see who could make the better sword. As a test for the sword, it was held upright in a swift running stream and every dead leaf that drifted against the edge of the sword was cut neatly in two.

Syncretism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Syncretism /ˈsɪŋkrətɪzəm/ is the combining of different (often seemingly contradictory) beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought. Syncretism may involve the merger and analogising of several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths.

Syncretism occurs commonly in expressions of arts and culture (known as eclecticism) as well as politics (syncretic politics).

Agrippa considered six as a perfect number (191). Since the number 66 is a doubling of the number 6, it can be viewed as a doubling of perfection or a symbolic representation of achieving perfect balance. Further, when the two sixes are added together, the result is 12, and when 1 and 2 are combined, the result is 3. Thus, the entire charm can be reduced to a complete symbol of the divine trinity.

Kenaz – Rune Meaning | Rune Secrets

My Notes:

Kenaz is the symbolizes the control and harnessing of fire for warmth and illumination. It represents our having harnessed forces and energies greater than ourselves. Where THURISAZ is the creation of tools, the rune meaning of Kenaz speaks to their skillful use. It signifies the mystery of transformation and our power to create as nature does.

Ancestrally, we each must carry our own torch, creating a path of light that flows through the darkness. These torches are never extinguished, and can be used as signposts in the navigation of the ancestral stream, and to acquire the knowledge and tools from our ancestry represented within ANSUZ that are rightfully ours to use in the present lifetime.

The scientific method and art as an exploration of truth exemplifies Kenaz, as do all fearless forays into the darkness of the unknown (represented by PERTHRO) in search of illumination. Also consider that there is inborn and hereditary knowledge, and that one of the cognitive faculties governed by Kenaz is intuition.

Kenaz is like a torchlit library, and the energy is clearly filled with unlimited potential to learn and to map. Sometimes a good deal of digging around is necessary to uncover the knowledge that will help. Do not forget that the map is not the territory, as Kenaz represents the acquisition of knowledge, not the knowledge itself. Not truth, but the search for truth.

In matters of learning, which can be complemented by the protective teaching force of ALGIZ, it is wise to remember that humility is the prime requirement of a good student, and that no one learns more than the teacher. Therefore arrogance, elitism and authoritarianism signify a disconnect with the principles of Kenaz. Information wants to be free!

....... Check Mate ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkmate ) ............. Old Friend ..............

The checkmate with the queen is the most important, but it is also very easy to achieve. It often occurs after a pawn has queened. The next most important one is the checkmate with the rook, and it is also very easy to achieve. The checkmates with the two bishops and with a bishop and knight are not nearly as important, since they only occur infrequently. The two bishop checkmate is fairly easy to accomplish, but the bishop and knight checkmate is difficult and requires precision.

RODNEY COLLIN
THE THEORY OF CELESTIAL
INFLUENCE
MAN, THE UNIVERSE, AND COSMIC MYSTERY

For such true 'models of the universe' must not only display the inner form
and structure of this universe, but must also reveal man's relation to it and his
present and possible fates within it. In this sense, certain of the Gothic
cathedrals are complete models of the universe, whereas a modem
planetarium, for all its beauty, knowledge and accuracy,
is not
. For the latter
model completely omits man. The difference, of course, lies in the fact that
the cathedrals, directly or indirectly, were designed by men who belonged to
schools for the achievement of higher states of consciousness, and had the
advantage of experience gained in such schools; whereas the designers of the
planetarium are scientists and technicians, clever and
qualified enough in their field, but claiming no particular knowledge of the
potentialities of the human machine with which they have to work.

In fact, if we are in possession of certain keys for their interpretation, the most
astonishing thing about these ancient 'models of the universe' arising in widely
separated ages, continents and cultures, is precisely their similarity
. So much so that a
good case might be made out for the idea that higher consciousness always reveals the
same truth, solely on the basis of a comparative study of certain existing models of the
universe which seem to derive therefrom - for example, the Cathedral of Chartres, the
Great Sphinx, the New Testament, the Divine Comedy, or certain cosmic diagrams left
by the 17th century alchemists, the designers of the Tarot pack, and the painters of
some Russian ikons and Tibetan banners.

One of the main characteristics of modem thought is a contradiction
between the way man regards the external world, outside himself, and the
way he regards the internal world, inside himself.

As regards the external world, he has never been more objective, more
convinced of the universal application of laws, expressable by formulae and
consistently measurable in their effects. In this field, any belief which throws
doubt on the principle of measurability, for example, any belief in
intelligence or consciousness belonging to beings greater in scale than man,
is in danger of being regarded as superstition
.

As regards his internal world, on the other hand, man has rarely been more
subjective
, more convinced of the special validity of his every whim,
imagination, hope and fear, and less willing to admit that his inner world is
subject to any laws whatsoever. The greater part of modem psychology, and
especially of psycho-analysis, has been based on this subjectivity. And in this
field, it is precisely the belief in laws and measurability - for example, belief
that much of human psychology is the result of the calculable interplay of
types, or belief that man's inner world is subject to laws similar to those
governing the astronomical or microscopic worlds - which is called
superstition
.
6 3 9

follow up:

When we find this contradiction in ordinary life, that is, when we meet a man who
judges the world around him by one standard, and himself and his own actions by
another and quite different standard, we take it as sign of a primitive and uncultured
point of view. Yet when this same contradiction is the chief characteristic of the whole
thought of our age, we call it enlightenment or emancipation. We do not see that it lies
at the root of as much blindness, unhappiness, disappointment and moral bankruptcy,
as it would in an individual case
.

follow up:

Man has two ways of studying the universe. The first is by induction:
he examines phenomena, classifies them, and attempts to infer laws and principles from
them. This is the method generally used by science. The second is by deduction: having
perceived or had revealed or discovered certain general laws and principles, he attempts
to deduce the application of these laws in various specialised studies and in life. This is
the method generally used by religion. The first method begins with 'facts' and attempts
to reach 'laws'. The second method begins with 'laws' and attempts to reach 'facts'.
These two methods belong to the working of different human functions. The first is
the method of the ordinary logical mind, which is permanently available to us
. The
second derives from a potential function in man, which is ordinarily inactive for lack
of nervous energy of sufficient intensity, and which we may call higher mental
function
.
This function, on the rare occasions of its operation, reveals to man laws in
action, he sees the whole phenomenal world as the product of laws.
this is what these threads are all about

they can take any form / Name (as they are also Fractal ):

THE SEVEN HERMETIC PRINCIPLES.

"The Principles of Truth are Seven; he who knows these, understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open."

The Seven Hermetic Principles, upon which the entire Hermetic Philosophy is based, are as follows:

I. THE PRINCIPLE OF MENTALISM.
II. THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE.
III. THE PRINCIPLE OF VIBRATION.
lV. THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY.
V. THE PRINCIPLE OF RHYTHM.
VI. THE PRINCIPLE OF CAUSE AND EFFECT.
VII. THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER.

from the Codex of Love:

Seven are the petals of love. Seven are the ways of the heart.
Seven are the principles of passion. Seven are the methods of intimacy.
Seven are the truths of ecstasy. Seven are the pains of rapture. One
is the embrace of Light. Who knows of them, knows the forty-nine
petalled rose of Life, and the seven visions of God.
you can also call them the Seven Angels

But here the great quandary of human understanding arises. For these two
minds can never ordinarily understand each other. There is too great a
difference in speed between them.
Just as communication is impossible
between a peasant plodding along a road with a load of sticks and a car which
flashes past him at eighty miles an hour, because of their difference in speed,
so is communication ordinarily impossible between logical mind and higher
mind, for the same reason
. To logical mind, the traces left by higher mind
will seem arbitrary, superstitious, illogical, unproven
. To higher mind, the
work of logical mind will seem ponderous, unnecessary, and beside the
point.
try this when you have succeeded in turning on your third eye (that tingly feeling in your forehead ) and everyday project one symbol into your forehead and give it its corresponding color:

It is noteworthy that the orbital speed of planets is in inverse proportion to
the square root of their distance from the Sun. Since the intensity of light
diminishes in inverse proportion to the square of its distance, we can add
further that the orbital speed of planets is in proportion to the square of the
square of the intensity of sunlight falling on them. Like cells, men, and

THE THEORY OF CELESTIAL INFLUENCE:Man, The Universe, and the Cosmic Mysteryby: RODNEY COLLIN

PHILOSOPHICALLY, MAN CAN SUPPOSE AN ABSOLUTE. SUCH AN Absolute would include all possible dimensions both of time and space. That is to say:It would include not only the whole universe which man can perceive or imagine, but all other such universes which may lie beyond the power of his perception. It would include not only the present moment of all such universes, but also their past and their future, whatever past and future may mean on their scale. It would include not only everything actualised in all the past, present and future of all universes, but also everything that potentially could be actualised in them.It would include not only all possibilities for all existing universes, but also all potential universes, even though they do not exist, nor ever have.Such a conception is philosophical for us. Logically, it must be like that, but our mind is unable to come to grips with the formula or make any sense of it .

from: The Heart, Mind and Spirit by Professor Mohamed Omar Salem

Discussion
It has long been thought that conscious awareness originates in the brain
alone. Recent scientific studies suggest that consciousness emerges from the
brain and body acting together (Popper & Eccles, 2000). As has been shown, a
growing body of evidence now suggests that the heart plays a particularly
significant role in this process
. The above findings indicate that, the heart is far
more than a simple pump. In fact, it is seen now as a highly complex, self-
organizing information processing centre with its own functional ‘brain’ that
communicates with, and influences, the cranial brain via the nervous system,
hormonal system and other pathways.
The involvement of the heart with intuitive
functions is another interesting piece of information. However, as persons with
transplanted hearts can function normally, the heart can be considered here as a
medium or tool, for an underlying more sophisticated integrating system that has
the capacity to carry the personal identity of the individual. These new visions
might give better understanding to the concept of mind as a multi-component unit
that is not only interacting with the physical environment through demonstrable
means, but also has the capacity to communicate with the cosmic universe
through non-physical pathways (Lorimer, 2001). This gives rise to the concept of
the spirit as the non-physical element, or the field, of the mind that can
communicate with the cosmos outside the constraints of space and time
. The
evidence for such communication comes from the reported phenomena of extra-
sensory perception (telepathy, precognition, and clairvoyance), psycho-kinesis,
psychic healing and religious experiences (Radin, 1997 & Henry, 2005).

Possibly further advancement in quantum physics may one day give us
further insight into how we can formulate this new model of the heart, mind and
spirit.

is complete
. Holding the reins of all the other functions, and creating that
unity between them which gives self-control and the power to act, the

recalls the idea that at this milestone a new and normally unrealized function
may come into action. Just as the function of breathing began at birth, and the
function of thinking at the end of childhood, so at this moment of maturity
there should begin a new function based on man's consciousness of his
existence, and of his relation to the universe.
The awakening of this new function seems to be connected with the mid
point of man's normal life-span, which as we shall shortly see, is about 76
years.
At 37 or 38 a man stands, as it were, exactly opposite the moments of
his conception and his death, and as though through a crack in time, a
reflection may appear to him of the universal mysteries from which he then
emerged and to which he must then return. Dante, prefacing his tremendous
vision of the universe - "In the mid-point of this mortal life, astray in a dark
wood I found myself. . ." - refers to this idea.
This new function, awakening at the peak of his life, may reveal to man a
sudden vision of the whole
, of which all his other functions have given him
but partial and conflicting glimpses. Sometimes in the same awakening it may
also reveal to him a new expression of the whole, to the fulfilment of which
all the rest of his life will be dedicated.
At 38 Kepler completed his 'New Astronomy' which, formulating the laws
relating to planetary motion, conveyed for the first time the true unity of the
Solar System. At 37 the great physicist. Clerk Maxwell, suddenly retiring
from a brilliant and active life to his remote estate in Scotland, there
perceived and proved the principle of electromagnetic vibration, the scientific
explanation of the unity of the universe. At 37, in a sudden flash of
illumination, at Sils-Maria in the Austrian Alps, Nietzsche became aware of
the same vision,
which, expressed in the idea of eternal recurrence, was to
make accessible to human understanding the unity of time. So at the same
age, Balzac conceived his 'Comedie Humaine', Tolstoy his 'War and Peace',
Ibsen his 'Peer Gynt',
each an attempt to express in literary form the whole of
human life.
--------------- my Pattern ....... you see nothing exceptional about awakening ..... just let it flow

These were evidently cases in which this last and potential function did awaken,
either fully or partly. And they show that its awakening enables a man to perceive
directly and personally a cosmos in its unity.

But for this to happen it is necessary for his highest energies to be diverted into a
new channel. And this in turn requires
the most intense desire, work, knowledge, help
and luck

.

Only the discovery of such a new function enables man to continue to ascend after
maturity.
For ordinary men an ever-increasing decline leads to the ninth and last
milestone, death

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard, a square checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid.

For a long time it was thought that the brain was a mass of tangled wires, but researchers recently found that its fibers are actually set up like a chess board, crossing at right-angles.

What’s more, this grid structure has now been revealed in amazing detail as part of a brain imaging study by a new state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner.

Van Wedeen, of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), who led study, said: ‘Far from being just a tangle of wires, the brain's connections turn out to be more like ribbon cables - folding 2D sheets of parallel neuronal fibers that cross paths at right angles, like the warp and weft of a fabric.

The Bajau (pron.: /ˈbædʒɔː/, also spelled Badjao, Bajaw, Bajao, Badjau, or Badjaw), are an indigenous ethnic group of Maritime Southeast Asia. Bajau continue to live a seaborne lifestyle, making use of small wooden sailing vessels (such as the perahu and vinta). They are also known as Sama or Samal.

The Bajau are traditionally from the islands of the Sulu Archipelago, as well as parts of the coastal areas of Mindanao and northern Borneo. In the last fifty years, many of the Filipino Bajau have migrated to neighboring Malaysia and the northern Philippines, due to the continuing conflict in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Currently they are the second largest ethnic group in the state of Sabah, making up 13.4%[1] of the total population. Groups of Bajau have also migrated to Sulawesi and Kalimantan in Indonesia, although figures of their exact population are unknown.[2]

Bajau have sometimes been referred to as the Sea Gypsies, although the term has been used to encompass a number of non-related ethnic groups with similar traditional lifestyles, such as the Moken of the Burmese-Thai Mergui Archipelago and the Orang Laut of southeastern Sumatra and the Riau Islands of Indonesia. The modern outward spread of the Bajau from older inhabited areas seems to have been associated with the development of sea trade in sea cucumber (trepang).

The Ancient Greeks and Romans believed the seahorse was an attribute of the sea god Neptune/Poseidon and as such, the seahorse was considered a symbol of strength and power. Ancient Europeans believed that the seahorse carried the souls of deceased sailors to the underworld - giving them safe passage and protection until the met their destination/destiny.

Chinese cultures believed that the seahorse was a type of sea dragon, and as such they were revered for their power and thought to be symbols of good luck. Sailors have long viewed the seahorse as a good luck charm too.

The stone is decorated with several figures in an upper and a lower field, which are separated by a braided pattern that resembles valknuts. In the upper field, there is a large eight-footed horse and a small rider who is offered a drinking horn by a woman, and there are also some other figures, such as a quadruped animal and some less discernible images.[1]

The rider on his horse is usually identified with Odin on his eight-legged horse Sleipnir, or a dead man (think Little death) who is arriving at Valhalla on Odin's horse.[1][2][3] The female figure is identified as a valkyrie .[1]

Other images on this stone, such as the woman on the right with two swords, are not currently understood as they do not conform to any known Norse myth that has survived to the present time.[2]

Valkyrie (1908) by Stephan Sinding located in Churchill Park at Kastellet in Copenhagen, Denmark

In the poem Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar, a prose narrative says that an unnamed and silent young man, the son of the Norwegian King Hjörvarðr and Sigrlinn of Sváfaland, witnesses nine valkyries riding by while sitting atop a burial mound. He finds one particularly striking; this valkyrie is detailed later in a prose narrative as Sváva, king Eylimi's daughter, who "often protected him in battles". The valkyrie speaks to the unnamed man, and gives him the name Helgi (meaning "the holy one"[8]).
