As March begins, you can see Venus and Jupiter above the western horizon after sunset separated by a distance equivalent to your fist held out at arm’s length. By the 12th, their separation will have shrunk to about two fingers.
If you Google “planetary conjunctions” and “astrology” you will find many historical references to these events. It is intriguing to imagine the significance the ancient astrologers would have given to a close encounter of the Goddess of love and the King of the Gods!

Of course, they are not really close together. They just happen to line up from our point of view, like taking a photo of a person standing in front of a distant mountain. Jupiter is actuallty about seven times farther away from us as Venus, so they just look close together. But that won’t diminish the beauty of what’s up in the sky.
