  • Music has big brain benefits compared to other leisure pursuits

(Medical Xpress)July 20, 2012 in Neuroscience -- It turns out mom was right. Music lessons are good for you, and those benefits may last a lifetime.
A recent study conducted by Brenda Hanna-Pladdy, PhD, a clinical neuropsychologist in Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology, offers additional evidence that musical instrumental training, when compared to other activities, may reduce the effects of memory decline and cognitive aging.

This is the second study published by Hanna-Pladdy, which confirms and refines findings from an original study published in Neuropsychology in 2011 that revealed that musicians with at least 10 years of instrumental musical training remained cognitively sharp in advanced age. The findings were published in the July issue of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

The study confirms that musical activity preserves cognition as we age, by comparing variability in cognitive outcomes of older adults active in musical instrumental and other leisure activities,” says Hanna-Pladdy. “A range of cognitive benefits, including memory, was sustained for musicians between the ages of 60-80 if they played for at least 10 years throughout their life, confirming that maintenance of advantages is not reliant on continued activity. In other words, you don’t use it or lose it. Nonetheless, the study highlighted the critical importance of the timing of musical activity, which may optimize cognitive benefits.”

The cognitive enhancements in older musicians included a range of verbal and nonverbal functions, as well as memory, which is the hallmark of Alzhemier’s pathology. The study evaluated the timing of musical engagement to determine whether there is a critical period of musical training for optimal cognitive advantages in advanced age. While years of playing music were the best indication of enhanced cognition in advanced age, the results revealed different sensitive periods for cognitive development across the lifespan. Early age of acquisition, before age nine, predicted verbal working memory functions such as remembering and reorganizing digits in your head, consistent with early sensitive periods in brain development. Sustained musical activity in advanced age predicted other non-verbal abilities involving visuospatial judgment, suggesting it is never too late to be musically active.

Continued musical activity in advanced age also appeared to buffer lower educational levels.

Yessss sirreeee. There are also fractal processes in reality.

I haven't been to this site for a long while but this post seems to be getting close to recognizing much about the nature of reality - which is a Virtual Reality.

Nice to see progress of this sort of data at the lower levels of study.

For further research of color I'd recommend Dr. Beau Lotto who studies illusions. His work has been featured in the UK show 'Seeing is Believing ?'. His conclusions include a statement consistent with Schopenhauer's work in which he says:

'Redness is not a color of the world.'

Just one more data point against the belief of objective reality.

For those interested in high levels of abstraction, such as process fractals, I'll reiterate a recommendation I made a long time ago on this site toward understanding much more, for a work titled

      My Big TOE

My Big TOE, written by a nuclear physicist in the language of contemporary Western culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. The entirety of human experience (mind, body, and spirit) including both our objective and subjective worlds, are brought together under one seamless scientific understanding...

Ahoy, TC is known to you ? Kudos !

By the way, here's a blogger, avatar of PlatoHagel, who is extremely steeped in conventional science, such as what the LHC is about, who learned of Campbell from me, elsewhere. He has been connecting dots, such as you, for most his life so I don't get much credit, really.

Here's a recent post at his place, on fractals, aptly titled, Process Fractal vs Geometry Fractals:

As I watch the dialogue between Bruce Lipton and Tom Campbell here, there were many things that helped my perspective understand the virtual world in relation to how the biology subject was presented. It is obvious then why Bruce Lipton likes the analogies Tom Campbell has to offer. The epiphanies Bruce is having along the road to his developing biological work is very important. It is how each time a person makes the leap that one must understand how individuals change, how societies change.

I based it on the following :

              from the Emerald Tablet:

All eyes do not see with the same vision,
for to one an object appears of
              one form and color
and to a different eye of another.
              So also the infinite fire,
              changing from color to color,
is never the same from day to day.
Just discovering TC .... and thank you again RBM for the contribution

              • Rorschach test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rorschach test (German pronunciation: [ˈʁoːɐʃax]; also known as the Rorschach inkblot test, the Rorschach technique, or simply the inkblot test) is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning. It has been employed to detect underlying thought disorder, especially in cases where patients are reluctant to describe their thinking processes openly.[3] The test is named after its creator, Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach.

With Gödels work there was the hope that you could distinguish between the provable and the unprovable and simply leave the unprovable to one side. What Turing does, is prove that, in fact, there is no way of telling which will be the unprovable problems. So how do you know when to stop? You will never know whether the problem you’re working on is simply fundamentally unprovable or extraordinarily difficult. And that is Turing’s Halting Problem.

                  • Let us discuss for a moment the term Muslim with a circuitry perspective .... may help clear the Kali Yuga Mist around it

Have previousley used this example ( fractal )

Let us consider for a second that a human is an RLC Circuit ( you'll see that these three components match the Following:

                    Plato's Tripartite Soul

RLC circuit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An RLC circuit (or LCR circuit) is an electrical circuit consisting of a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor, connected in series or in parallel. The RLC part of the name is due to those letters being the usual electrical symbols for resistance, inductance and capacitance respectively
                    what are these components

                    Spirited (3) ( white horse )

In electromagnetism and electronics, inductance is that property of a conductor by which a change in current in the conductor "induces" (creates) a voltage (electromotive force) in both the conductor itself (self-inductance)[1][2][3] and any nearby conductors (mutual inductance)[4][5]. This effect derives from two fundamental observations of physics: First, that a steady current creates a steady magnetic field (Oersted's law)[6] ; second, that a time-varying magnetic field induces voltage in a nearby conductor (Faraday's law of induction)[7]. From Lenz's law[8], in an electric circuit, a changing electric current through a circuit that has inductance induces a proportional voltage which opposes the change in current (self inductance). The varying field in this circuit may also induce an e.m.f. in a neighbouring circuit (mutual inductance).
                    Rational (2)

A capacitor (originally known as condenser) is a passive two-terminal electrical component used to store energy in an electric field. The forms of practical capacitors vary widely, but all contain at least two electrical conductors separated by a dielectric (insulator)
                    and Lastly

                    Appetitive (1)

The electrical resistance of an electrical element is the opposition to the passage of an electric current
                    ----------------------------

the word Muslim means to surrender or if you prefer in electric term removing any Resistance

so what happens when a circuit becomes an LC instead of an RLC

LC circuit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An LC circuit, also called a resonant circuit, tank circuit, or tuned circuit, consists of an inductor, represented by the letter L, and a capacitor, represented by the letter C. When connected together, they can act as an electrical resonator, an electrical analogue of a tuning fork, storing electrical energy oscillating at the circuit's resonant frequency.
An LC circuit is an idealized model since it assumes there is no dissipation of energy due to resistance. For a model incorporating resistance see RLC circuit. The purpose of an LC circuit is to oscillate with minimal damping, and for this reason their resistance is made as low as possible. While no practical circuit is without losses, it is nonetheless instructive to study this pure form to gain a good understanding.

Please continue to refer to your 'previous post' as you do here when you make a remark.

Reason being that I only read as far as what I recognized from my previous research elsewhere and did not dig further into the original post (OP) of this thread, much less read this whole thread of 90 some pages.

                      RE: Turing's Halting Problem

Thanks for that. Here's why, I'm an INTJ personality by the Meyers-Brigg (M-B)Personality Type model. 'N' stand for intuition. The M-B use of intuition is very materialistic:

In philosophy, the theory of materialism holds that the only thing that exists is matter or energy; that all things are composed of material and all phenomena (including consciousness) are the result of material interactions. In other words,
Tom Campbell among others, such as Ed Fredkin, Nick Bostrom and Brain Whitworth all disagree with that assessment in different ways and specifics. In general all these views fall under what is referred to as 'The VR conjecture'.

The reason Tom says there's no objective reality is because this is a Virtual Reality (VR):

The properties of a VR and as it is experienced by the participants is based on a rule set or sets that define these properties. It exists within the mind of the participant although it appears as external to their mind, both internal and external to their perceived virtual body associated with their participation in the VR. A participant experiences their 'native' VR (as opposed to one that they are visiting only by mentally switching to another VR data stream in which they are not 'native') as a physical reality in which they possess a body, although the nature of that body varies depending upon the nature of the VR. A 'non native' VR is perceived as being non physical in that you move by thought rather than by 'walking' and what is visualized that would be 'solid' if native is non material. In an OOBE, you move out of your 'native' place within PMR and the result is that your perception is the same as of a 'non native' VR.
That is why the fractal brain exists and everything that's listed in this subforum.

                      From Tom's book synopsis:

My Big TOE, written by a nuclear physicist in the language of contemporary Western culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. The entirety of human experience (mind, body, and spirit) including both our objective and subjective worlds, are brought together under one seamless scientific understanding.
This unification is possible because of the true nature of reality.

                        ps: I'm an INFP

the interesting part .... as it is fractal

                        INFP Personality Types

Whether you're a young adult trying to find your place in the world, or a not-so-young adult trying to find out if you're moving along the right path, it's important to understand yourself and the personality traits which will impact your likeliness to succeed or fail at various careers. It's equally important to understand what is really important to you. When armed with an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, and an awareness of what you truly value, you are in an excellent position to pick a career which you will find rewarding.

INFPs generally have the following traits:

                        Strong value systems
                        Warmly interested in people
Service-oriented, usually putting the needs of others above their own
Loyal and devoted to people and causes
                        Future-oriented
Growth-oriented; always want to be growing in a positive direction
                        Creative and inspirational
Flexible and laid-back, unless a ruling principle is violated
                        Sensitive and complex
Dislike dealing with details and routine work
Original and individualistic - "out of the mainstream"
                        Excellent written communication skills
Prefer to work alone, and may have problems working on teams
                        Value deep and authentic relationships

The INFP is a special, sensitive individual who needs a career which is more than a job. The INFP needs to feel that everything they do in their lives is in accordance with their strongly-felt value systems, and is moving them and/or others in a positive, growth-oriented direction. They are driven to do something meaningful and purposeful with their lives. The INFP will be happiest in careers which allow them to live their daily lives in accordance with their values, and which work towards the greater good of humanity. It's worth mentioning that nearly all of the truly great writers in the world have been INFPs.

The following list of professions is built on our impressions of careers which would be especially suitable for an INFP. It is meant to be a starting place, rather than an exhaustive list. There are no guarantees that any or all of the careers listed here would be appropriate for you, or that your best career match is among those listed.

Possible Career Paths for the INFP:

                        Writers
                        Counselors / Social Workers
                        Teachers / Professors
                        Psychologists
                        Psychiatrists
                        Musicians
                        Clergy / Religious Workers
interesting .... Thank you RBM .... for the new patterns

That is because they are monkeys .
To give you an example, back in 1993 the Swedish newspaper Expressen, tested the trading abilities of a monkey called Ola. They ran a competition over a period of a month with him pitted against one of the top professional traders.

As the pro, carefully picked his stocks and set limit orders to squeeze the last krona out of his trades, Ola picked up some darts and threw them into a copy of the newspaper. The editorial staff then dutifully executed Ola's trades. Guess who ended up with the most money at the end of the month?

Do Monkeys Pay for Sex? - TIME

It turns out that one of humanity's oldest professions may be even older than we thought: In a recent study of macaque monkeys in Indonesia, researchers found that male primates "paid" for sexual access to females — and that the going rate for such access dwindled as the number of available females went up.

According to the paper, "Payment for Sex in a Macaque Mating Market," published in the December issue of Animal Behavior, males in a group of about 50 long-tailed macaques in Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia, traded grooming services for sex with females; researchers, who studied the monkeys for some 20 months, found that males offered their payment up-front, as a kind of pre-sex ritual. It worked. After the females were groomed by male partners, female sexual activity more than doubled, from an average of 1.5 times an hour to 3.5 times. The study also showed that the number of minutes that males spent grooming hinged on the number of females available at the time: The better a male's odds of getting lucky, the less nit-picking time the females received. Though primates have been observed trading grooming for food sharing or infant care, this is the first time this kind of exchange has been observed between male and female primates in a sexual context, says lead researcher Michael Gumert of Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, demonstrating that the amount of time a male macaque "will invest in [its] partner" depends largely on how many options it has around.

Fruit flies apparently self-medicate just like many humans do, drowning their sorrows or frustrations for some of the same reasons, scientists reported Thursday. Male flies subjected to what amounted to a long tease — in a glass tube, not a dance club — preferred food spiked with alcohol far more than male flies that were able to mate.

                              RE: Turing's Halting Problem

Tom Campbell among others, such as Ed Fredkin, Nick Bostrom and Brain Whitworth all disagree with that assessment in different ways and specifics. In general all these views fall under what is referred to as 'The VR conjecture'.

I knew the above sounded Familiar :

there is a similar pattern described by the UMMO Papers:

                              The UMMO Papers

coincidently those papers circulated a lot within the Scientific Community

That is why when we speak about dimensions to define space, do not believe that the dimension of length in the WAAM (cosmos) is the same as we imagine it in our minds. As this would require a considerable and continuous mental effort, throughout these reports and for the sake of convenience, the length of a straight line can be considered to be synonymous with dimension, and to a certain degree that is correct.
