Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa: Of Occult Philosophy, Book I, (part 4)

    Chapter 66

Chapter lxvi. That the Passions of the mind are helped by a Celestiall season, and how necessary the Constancy of the mind is in every work.

The Passions of the mind are much helped, and are helpfull, and become most powerfull by vertue of the Heaven, as they agree with the heaven, either by any naturall agreement, or by voluntary Election . For, as saith Ptolomeus [Ptolomy], he which chooseth that which is the better, seems to differ nothing from him who hath this of nature. It conduceth therefore very much for the receiving of the benefit of the Heavens, in any work, if we shall by the Heaven make our selves sutable [suitable] to it in our thoughts, affections, imaginations, elections, deliberations, contemplations, and the like. For such like passions do vehemently stir up our spirit to their likeness, and suddenly expose us, and ours to the superior significators of such like passions; and also by reason of their dignity, and neerness to the superiors, do much more partake of the Celestials, then any materiall things. For our mind can through imaginations, or reason by a kind of imitation, be so conformed to any Star, as suddenly to be filled with the vertues of that Star, as if it were a proper receptacle of the influence thereof. Now the contemplating mind, as it withdraws it self from all sense, imagination, nature, and deliberation, and cals [calls] it self back to things separated, unless it exposeth it self to Saturn, is not of present consideration, or enquiry. For our mind doth effect divers things by faith, which is a firm adhesion, a fixt intention, and a vehement application of the worker, or receiver, to him that co-operates in any thing, and gives power to the work which we intend to do. So that there is made as it were in us the image of the vertue to be received, and the thing to be done in us, or by us. We must therefore in every work, and application of things, affect vehemently, imagine, hope, and believe strongly, for that will be a great help. And it is verified amongst Physitians [physicians], that a strong belief, and an undoubted hope, and love towards the Physitian [physician], and medicine, conduce much to health, yea more sometimes than the medicine it self. For the same that the efficacy, and vertue of the medicine works, the same doth the strong imagination of the Physitian [physician] work, being able to change the qualities in the body of the sick, especially when the patient placeth much confidence in the Physitian [physician], by that means disposing himself for the receiving of the vertue of the Physitian [physician], and Physick [=medicine]. Therefore he that works in Magick, must be of a constant belief, be credulous, and not at all doubt of obtaining the effect. For as a firm, and strong belief doth work wonderfull things, although it be in false works, so distrust and doubting doth dissipate, and break the vertu [vertue] of the mind of the worker, which is the medium betwixt both extreams, whence it happens, that he is frustrated of the desired influence of the superiors, which could not be joyned, and united to our labours without a firm, and solid vertue of our mind.

Agrippa considered six as a perfect number (191). Since the number 66 is a doubling of the number 6, it can be viewed as a doubling of perfection or a symbolic representation of achieving perfect balance. Further, when the two sixes are added together, the result is 12, and when 1 and 2 are combined, the result is 3. Thus, the entire charm can be reduced to a complete symbol of the divine trinity.

Various thinkers discuss the role that luck can play in science. One aspect of Walpole's original definition of serendipity, often missed in modern discussions of the word, is the need for an individual to be "sagacious" enough to link together apparently innocuous facts in order to come to a valuable conclusion. Indeed, the scientific method, and the scientists themselves, can be prepared in many other ways to harness luck and make discoveries.

That said, some runes are more strongly associated with a male, or a female, core energy. In the case of Fehu, there is no real debate among Runesters that Fehu represents the female, Mother Goddess energy – the creative fire that melted the primordial ice and gave birth to all – both the Giants and the Aesir (Gods). Fehu is fiery energy associated with Adhumla the primal cow and linked to the Muspellheimr the fire world… I note the links we had to great page on Yggdrasil and the nine worlds are broken. I couldn’t find anything I liked as well, but at this link is a diagram and an interesting discussion associating the worlds to Chakra’s: Myths of the Nordic Lands compared to the Chakra System

The myths of the Nordic races including the Germanic tribes and the Vikings speak of the formation of the earth from the slain body of the giant Ymir, the first living creature. Not unlike the Hindu cosmic person, Purusa, according to the these ancient myths, Ymir was created in the void, which is described as a yawning chasm, by the combination of the elements. Children sprang forth from Ymir and three of them, Vili, Ve and Odin, slew Ymir. The World Tree, Yggdrasil, which bridges this yawning chasm, was created from the body of Ymir. Yggdrasil, is described in the Nordic Eddas as the largest tree to have ever grown. Its branches overhang the nine worlds and spread above the heavens. The tree is supported by three roots: one descends into Jotunheim (see map below); one into the fog world of Nifelhel close to the spring of Hvergelmir where the dragon Nidhogg gnaws at the root from below; and one is embedded near Asgard beneath Urd's well. Water from Urd's well is mixed with earth by the three Norns, the weavers of fate: Urd the Grandmother, Skuld the mother and Verdandi the maiden. This earth/water mixture is used to prevent Yggdrasil's bark from rotting. The three Norns are sometimes referred to as the triple goddess because time was not perceived as linear by the Germanic tribes. They understood what we call time to be "that which is"; referencing what is right now, in this moment. That is the meaning of Urd (or Wyrd) the primary Norn. The past is included in "that which is" and the future is being molded or shaped by "that which is". Yggdrasil connects the nine worlds: Asgard, Vanaheim, Muspelheim, Midgard, Lightalfheim, Swartalfheim, Hel, Jotunheim and Nifelhel. The image map below shows the location of these nine worlds.

Reading the Green Language of Light - Vincent Bridges

Reading the Green Language of Light
          by Vincent Bridges

          Part One
Divination is one of man's oldest spiritual technologies, its origins lost in the shift from neolithic hunter-gatherers to settled agriculturalists. As the shaman developed into the priest, divination, along with all forms of spiritism, became codified into mythology. From a framework of mythic events and divination - literally readings of the divine - came language, which evolved over time into written forms based on the original symbolic elements. In turn, these symbolic elements became the focus of divinatory practices of their own, creating sub-sets of meaning within common words and phrases. From this intentional ambiguity arose the possibility of an initiate's language, a language of the birds, or, as it was expressed by the medieval initiates, the Green Language.
very enlightening article .... as it demonstrates the process of our discussion , sort of ....

Could it be possible, by looking at the structure of DNA, to reconstruct this dragon's speech, this green language of light's syntax, grammar and vocabulary? And could it be, as Fulcanelli suggests, that fragments of that original language of light can be found in the divinatory systems used by all nautes, shaman and initiates?

24:35 Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.

In Islam, the mithrab is the prayer doorway to Mecca and the inner mysteries of Mohammed's revelation. In many Sufi sects, the mithrab has the geometric pattern of the Tree of Life, without Malkuth, inscribed in its niche. This is usually coupled with the Light Verse from the Qu'ran - Sura 24, verse 35. To the Sufis, this verse exemplifies the very idea of illumination. Idries Shah called the verse "the essence of Sufism," and goes on to suggests that it "conceals the nature of the cognition of the extra dimensions of the human consciousness which comes beyond the intellect."

However, this secret, universal, indefinite language, in spite of the importance and the truth of
its expression, is in reality of Greek origin and genius, as our author teaches us in his History
of the Birds. He has some very old oak trees speak --- an allusion to the language which the
                Druids used ( [*78-1] --- Druidai, from [*78-2] --- Drys, oak)
                --- in this manner:

                "Think of
the oak trees which we feel you are looking at: it is we who are speaking to you, and if you
are astonished that we speak the language used in the world whence you come, know that our
first fathers are natives of it. They lived in Epire, in the forest of Dodona, where their natural
goodness moved them to give oracles to the afflicted people who consulted them
                . For this
purpose, they had learned the Greek language, the most universal then in existence, so as to be
understood". Hermetic cabala was known in Egypt, at least by the priestly caste, as shown by
the invocation of the Leyden Papyrus: "I invoke you, the most powerful of gods who has
created everything, you born of yourself, who sees everything, without being seen... I invoke
you under the name you possess in the language of the birds, in that of hieroglyphics, in that
of the Jews, in that of the Egyptians, in that of the cynocephales... in that of the sparrow
hawks, in the hieratic language". We also find this idiom among the Incas, sovereigns of Peru

until the time of the Spanish conquest; the ancient writers called it lengua general (universal
language), and lengua cortesana (language of the court), that is, diplomatic language, since it
contains a double meaning corresponding to a double science, one apparent, the other
profound ( [*78-3] diple, double, and [*78-4], mathe, science). "The cabala", says Abbot
Perroquet (28), "was an introduction to the study of all sciences".
In presenting us the powerful figure of Roger Bacon, whose genius shines in the intellectual
firmament of the 13th century like a star of the first magnitude, Armand Parrot (29) describes
by what labor he was able to acquire the synthesis of ancient languages and how he possessed
such a wide practice of the mother language that he was capable of using its techniques to
teach in a very short time languages reputed to be the most difficult. One will admit that
therein lies a truly marvelous particularly of this universal language which appears to us to be
both the best key to the sciences and the most perfect method of humanism. "Bacon", the
author writs, "knew Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic; ( you don't have to ..... google will do it for you thereby putting himself in a position to
draw a rich education from ancient literature, he had acquired a reasoned knowledge of the
two common languages which he needed to know, that of his native country and that of
                France
                .
                (27) The famous founder of the Order of Franciscans ( see also : http://www.energeticforum.com/199029-post2352.html ) , to which the illustrious Adept Roger
                Bacon belonged
, knew hermetic cabala perfectly well; St Francis of Assisi knew how to speak
                with birds.

; Chivalry can only be freely accepted, for even if one's words and deeds are always chivalric, it is by the truth of the thoughts hidden in one's mind and the feelings buried in one's heart that one's chivalry must ultimately be judged.

These four factors combined to create the ideal knight into the romantic knight, and each change brought on new perspectives and expectations, and chivalry was changed forever.
                    -----------

As the knights adopted the increasing standards of chivalry and continued to place the medieval woman and her eternal love and devotion into an ever more exalted position, so did the idea of an ideal knight's lady mirror the ideal knight, until the ladies themselves had as impossible a standard to follow as the knights did

                    ------------

In the end, chivalry adopted a coloring unique to the West, into which both men and women actually duped themselves, creating impossible ideals which their children came to accept as expectations, and both spent their whole lives shackled by guilt for not being what society had decreed they should be, with no concession for the fact that it was impossible

Nothing to do with blood and orgies portrait today in our culture ( although there is some truth to it .... true Knights were very few ... as legend goes ....Lancelot )

The Middle Ages were a time when it was actually fashionable to seek to be, not merely the best that one can be, but the best of all things. It was a period in history when people actually strove to elevate themselves, to become more than they were, even in the face of impossibility, and to never cease trying to discover that which is divine in ourselves through attempting to bring ourselves closer with the unattainable . Chivalry failed, as it was doomed to do from its very beginning. Yet, it did accomplish its goal, if only to show to future generations that there are levels which each of us can elevate ourselves to, a path for self-improvement which ardently embraces the impossible as a part of what we can be, if we strive to adopt the ancient goals and single-mindedness of the ideals of chivalry

Heraldic guardian griffin at Kasteel de Haar, Netherlands

In heraldry, the griffin's amalgamation of lion and eagle gains in courage and boldness, and it is always drawn to powerful fierce monsters. It is used to denote strength and military courage and leadership. Griffins are portrayed with rear body of a lion, an eagle's head, with erect ears, and feathered breast, with forelegs of an eagle, including claws. The combination indicates a combination of intelligence and strength.[11]

In British heraldry, a male griffin is shown without wings, its body covered in tufts of formidable spikes, with a short tusk emerging from the forehead, as for a unicorn.[12] The female griffin with wings is more commonly used.

Peace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

                            Etymology

From the Latin pax, meaning "freedom from civil disorder," the English word came into use in various personal greetings from c.1300 as a translation of the Hebrew shalom. Such a translation is, however, imprecise, as shalom, which is also cognate with the Arabic "salaam", has multiple other meanings in addition to peace, including justice, good health, safety, well-being, prosperity, equity, security, good fortune, and friendliness.[citation needed] At a personal level, peaceful behaviors are kind, considerate, respectful, just, and tolerant of others' beliefs and behaviors—tending to manifest goodwill.

This latter understanding of peace can also pertain to an individual's introspective sense or concept of her/himself, as in being "at peace" in one's own mind, as found in European references from c.1200. The early English term is also used in the sense of "quiet", reflecting calm, serene, and meditative approaches to family or group relationships that avoid quarreling and seek tranquility — an absence of disturbance or agitation.

In many languages the word for peace is also used a greeting or a farewell, for example the Hawaiian word Aloha, as well as the Arabic word salaam. In English the word peace is occasionally used as a farewell, especially for the dead, as in the phrase Rest In Peace.

Buddhists believe that peace can be attained once all suffering ends. They regard all suffering as stemming from cravings (in the extreme, greed), aversions (fears), or delusions. To eliminate such suffering and achieve personal peace, followers in the path of the Buddha adhere to a set of teachings called the Four Noble Truths — a central tenet in Buddhist philosophy.

Islam means submission. Muslim, etymologically directly related to salaam and the name Islam, means a person who submits to Allah in salaam.[citation needed] Submission to Allah is based on humility. An attitude of humility within one's own self cannot be accomplished without total rejection of violence, and a personal attitude and alignment toward peace.

Falconry is the hunting of wild quarry in its natural state and habitat by means of a trained bird of prey. There are two traditional terms used to describe a person involved in falconry: a falconer flies a falcon; an austringer (German origin) flies a hawk (Accipiter and some buteos and similar) or an eagle (Aquila or similar). In modern falconry the Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) and the Harris hawk are often used. The words "hawking" and "hawker" have become used so much to mean petty traveling traders, that the terms "falconer" and "falconry" now apply to all use of trained birds of prey to catch game. In early English falconry literature, the word "falcon" referred to a female falcon only, while the word "hawk" or "hawke" referred to a female hawk. A male hawk or falcon was referred to as a "tiercel" (sometimes spelled "tercel") as it was roughly one third less than the female in size.[1][2] Many contemporary practitioners still use these words in their original meaning. The practice of hunting with a conditioned falconry bird is also called "hawking" or "gamehawking".
