In the eggs of most birds and reptiles, the chalazae are two spiral bands of tissue that suspend the yolk in the center of the white (the albumen). The function of the chalazae is to hold the yolk in place. For culinary use of eggs, particularly in baking, the chalazae are sometimes removed in order to ensure a uniform texture.

In plant ovules, the chalaza is located opposite the micropyle opening of the integuments. It is the tissue where the integuments and nucellus are joined. Nutrients from the plant travel through vascular tissue in the funiculus and outer integument through the chalaza into the nucellus. In most flowering plants, the pollen tube enters the ovule through the micropyle opening in the integuments for fertilization (porogamy). In chalazogamous fertilization, the pollen tubes penetrate the ovule through the chalaza rather than the micropyle opening.[1] Chalazogamy was first discovered in monoecious plant species of the Casuarinaceae family, but has since then also been observed in others, for example in pistachio and walnut.

Our sun is an awesome, life-giving energy machine. Containing more than 99.8% of the total mass of our solar system (Jupiter contains most of the rest, says the great Nine Planets website), it converts about 700,000,000 tons of hydrogen to about 695,000,000 tons of helium every second, via thermonuclear fusion in its interior. In the process, the sun creates about 5,000,000 tons (=3.86e33 ergs) of energy that eventually makes its way to the sun’s surface to be released as the light and warmth that, among other things, sustains all life on Earth. On January 31, 2013, the sun belched energy in two particularly lovely features, both of which were caught on video by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory.

One feature had the shape of the ring, and the other lashed out like a dragon’s tail.

This first video shows a variety of views of the break-up of the Dragon Tail filament on January 31, 2013. Solar filaments are not the same as coronal mass ejections, or CMEs (although there was a CME on January 31, too, described below). Filaments are anchored to the sun’s surface in its photosphere – or visible surface – and extend outwards hundreds of kilometers into the sun’s hot outer atmosphere, called the corona. Filaments tend to form over timescales of about a day, and the more stable ones may persist in the corona for several months. The January 31 Dragon Tail filament one did not persist, though. The entire event lasted approximately 4 hours, and nothing was released from the sun. The materials in the filament fell back to the sun’s surface due to the pull of gravity.

But there was another event on January 31 that did release material from the sun into space. It was an unusual, ring-shaped coronal mass ejection (CME).

Greetings,

Have you ever noticed or rather paid attention to the peculiar languaging of our times?

I’m speaking more than etymology here, much much more than that. Of course, in my world-view, Etymology is a crucial aspect of the question of languaging, but it’s the phrasing I’m speaking of. The slogans that are a part and parcel of the english speaking world, drilled into our heads from the start.

For a start, take a look at that word. Drill. School drills things into children. Soldiers perform drills. What does drilling bring to mind? This perhaps?

Why do we need things drilled into us? Drilling is invasive, forced, extractive, painful and usually does more harm than good.

Yet we go about our lives practicing drills. I’m not being facetious here. Words matter. Images matter even more and Symbols matter most of all.

Think about matter for a moment. Matter is the baseline. For everything. We are made of matter (Matter, mater, mother, same root).

We say things that matter (speak our world into existence).

We do things that matter (make our world).

It’s all matter. So it all matters.

Now we can all under-stand that fine pre-cedes the gross, yes?

Big things are made of ever smaller building blocks. As a MATTER of fact, modern science’s holy grail is finding the smallest building blocks of MATTER.

So, while time may be a mystery, matter, real, tactile matter is easier to grasp.

Let’s take a walk from the subtle to the gross. ..... shall we Dance
