    Incorrect resistance ?

For 8,500 feet of 20AWG the resistance is 86 ohms, not 40 as Paul says.

But the basic message is true, more turns equals more flux for the same input power, as Joseph Newman says in his book (it's standard science, no laws broken).

Lengthening the core will increase the flux, as will any increase in the total area of the core.

Switching at nano-second intervals to capture the transient spikes, i like the sound of that.

It was also interesting that his coils were on their side, which would give you a mostly positive sine-wave, rather than standard, symmetrical AC, and would 'use' Lenz's law to aid rotation due to the resulting lag.

It was good to be reminded of the Joseph Newman book, i was also astounded when i read that the flux increases with coil geometry with no additional input power, but i didn't know how to capture it back then.

I think the book is still available at Patrick Kelly's excellent site :

Joesph Newman's old site is now dead, unfortunately, but he's still driving around the States, delivering his message, as he has been for decades. A heroic person.
