Thank you for posting this. Your friend's design is very similar to my final solution, but his doesn't include the last feature of the movement that I believe is necessary to make it work. Is there a way to get this paper translated into English, so I could understand what he is saying?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for getting me this so quickly. Give me a few days to study it and I will post in this thread when I can.

I believe as #5 comes around there is a curved piece at the bottom of the wheel that the small wheel rolls up until it is in the upright position....something that would only happen if the wheel's rotation exerts significant force.“Advances are made by answering questions. According to the document the rotation of the wheel is in the opposite direction as we think it should be.
This way the #5 is the one that push the wheel from the bottom while is falling, like a child in the swing pushing himself with the legs agaist a wall in front of him, but in this case the weigth rolls down on bearings following some path producing the reaction force.
Perhaps some math can help to find out the net torque.

Wrong direction
Hi All,
According to the drawings the wheel is rotating in the opposite direction from what you would think. Look at the arrows in the drawings. After looking at all the drawings and studying for a while I think I understand the claims. As the wheel rotates the star in the center is holding the weights to the center. When the weight gets to the bottom the weight falls away from the star and onto a curved ramp. The weight riding down the curved ramp is supposed to have enough force to cause the wheel to turn. Some of the pictures show different curves on the ramps I guess they are trying to maximize the push on the wheel. I am having a hard time believing the push can overcome the difference in balance from one side of the wheel to the other because of the weights being to the outside on the side going up. I would sure like to see a video of it in operation.

You're both right, and it is even clearer to see in the photo rather than the drawing. My mistake. Having built several different designs, I have a hard time believing this one will work, but I have been wrong before....like three posts ago??

Franco is in the process of testing a wheel in the whole iron, type flying from about 74 pounds with a system of 8-cylinder 1500grammi cd. running in eccentrically giving himself alone (4 pushed to turn) the necessary push a lever that double from 227 g to 3000 g initial push comes to final push in less than 16 °, comes to 60 RPM.

We would love to see some video of his test. I have built and tested a number of designs ( 11Turion's channel - YouTube ) and have one very promising design I am currently working with. But I am always interested in other possibilities. This is an easy enough design to replicate if it looks like it is working.

the wheel of orffyreus, as a principle of operation is located in his drawings in which 8 are noticed weights attached inside a circle, 4 of which are supported on the vertices of a star, the other 4 free.
A free weight (eg on the middle right) is supported on a semicircle profile, this profile is exactly that he used as a pusher, and the direction is counterclockwise.
