For over 20 years, many companies, corporations and even Sports Arenas have reduced or removed the carbon footprints that their businesses create by offsetting the electricity they use, simply by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates, a.k.a. "REC"s. Now, Stream Energy has launched a new product called CLEAN NATION. Clean Nation allows individuals the ability to purchase RECs in an effort to help our country go green, one household at a time! To learn more, go to:http://goforthehealth.cleannation.biz/home.asp. Thanks for posting this program. This may well be a good business opportunity, as far as making money. However, the only way you can ACTUALLY reduce the "carbon footprint" of your home energy use is by actually USING LESS ENERGY, in your home, that was produced by the burning of a carbon based fuel.
All other plans to "off-set" things are just systems to move the blame around and hide the real environmental effects in some statistical analysis.
I'm all for making money and raising awareness on these things, but I am also for REAL reduction of energy waste (conservation), the implementation of more efficient appliances, and the production of non-carbon, non nuclear based energy methods.
I don't believe these two activities should be confused, as if they are the same thing.

The world will never be green when oil is burned.
As long as oil produces our energy we will never stop using it.
Oil must be replaced as the energy producer.
When that is allowed to happen, the world will become green.
Going green must happen world wide.
It doesnt matter what is offset in the united states.
