  • Grid tie....but not!

Hoping for some advice. Does anyone know of a system or method you can use to grid tie but block power from going back to the meter? Odd question I know, but where I live the energy company do not allow grid tied devices. So if I have something set up that does not allow power back to the grid it is ok to connect it.

    Thanks for your help.

why would you want to do this?

you can set up a system, and have a battery, and then have a battery charger from the grid, and that would still give you energy storage and a grid connection.

      Thanks for your reply Velacreations.

I want to be able to link a generator running on veg oil but I don't want to set up a complete off grid system and the expense of the battery bank. The idea is to start up the generator when I am using the most load. But when I turn the generator off I want the grid to take up the slack. My idea was to use a 12v 350A alternator connected to a grid tie inverter for the generator.

      Thanks

You could use a smaller bank of batteries, just to smooth things out, and have your surplus stored there, and then have an automatic battery charger (inverter/charger is the best option) pull from the grid when the batteries get low.
