Regarding the catalyst,
It would seem that the reduction catalyst in a car converter could work as its job is to rip apart nitrous oxide by holding onto the nitrogen while oxygen is ripped away. The reduction catalyst contains platinum and rhodium.
But, in order for a catalytic converter to do its job, it has to be hot.
