Bigger electrolytic silver cell.
As there was some interest with the silver crystals, I’ll post some more progress...
Below: The new electrolytic silver cell, the stainless steel bowl contains the electrolyte and the anode container/filter sitting in the top.
Below: With the cover off showing the silver crystals forming in the stainless steel bowl which is acting as the cathode. This is after around 24 hours of running the cell, it consumed all of the silver shot in the anode bag, so I’ll have to add more silver shot.
Below: Close up of the crystals in the bowl. These are not as dense as with the beaker because the electrolyte is less concentrated than with the saturated solution with the beaker. (Still 600g of silver dissolved in 4L of the electrolyte alone)! Thus a weaker current passes. This forms smaller crystals. Nevertheless they are still pure.
Below: Anode basket and filter. Almost all of the silver is shot consumed. The black “slimes” might contain some gold...
I’ll post some more crystal growth pictures later but that pretty much shows the process. - Unfortunately the camera fails to pick up the full shininess of these crystals. To the eye these just look spectacular!
