  • hypothetical tesla coil question!

    Ok. say we have a huge tesla coil and we getting all electronics parts (motors, bulbs, etc...) to be energized and working. How do you stop the energy?
    I don't want any light when i am sleeping.

    Just turn off the light switch.

      nope. wrong.

      bulbs just glow when near the energized field.

        You can start disconnecting wires here and there until it stops.... :-)

          Disconnecting a wire is like a switch. A matter of where to put the coil and where to put the switch. Either way, it starts with a switch.

          But ok, now i say do it

              Nah! It starts with a wire... There might be a switch. Maybe not. :-)

              Anyway, probably some wires are hooked up wrong here if it keeps
              running and you can't stop it.

                On a somewhat practical note, the "primary" winding is the only point in which you should connect apparatus to. The secondary/extra are oscillating coils and shouldn't be tampered with - otherwise tuning is altered. This of course for a "practical" receiver.

                In this direction, you would rectify the medium to high frequency (10kcps-3Mcps) output off of the primary, then use a low frequency (50-60 cps) inverter for normal use - similar to the HF HVDC transmission lines in use today. From this point on everything would work as you are accustom to - ordinary mains power from the local utility company.

                The only difference here, is that you used the Tesla Transformer as a special transmitter/receiver with the earth as the "one wire" transmission line. As can be seen, this arrangement is distinctly different than using the normal two-wire transmission line and low frequency transformers at step up/down points. However, one commonality both share, is the requirement of an energy source. It should be obvious that the Tesla Transformer IS NOT a "source", but I think this major point this escapes most. While energy entering into and energy exiting the Tesla transmission system may not follow Kirchhoff's circuital laws (as they are broken with longitudinal electrical networks), it doesn't mean it can keep working without the generator pumping energy into the primary at the transmitter.

                Hope that somewhat helps, indirectly, in answering your question. As the real problem isn't how to turn the receiver off, but instead how to actually connect the receiver for practical use. From that point on, turning a light, motor and etc on or off is as simple as using a switch.

                    Get ready to commit suicide... It is kind of like a nuclear reaction or the discovery of radium/radiation. Madame Curie died of radiation poisoning because she didn't understand how to protect herself or even that there was any danger. The scientists, including Curie and her husband thought that radiation was a wonderful cure all. I would suggest to you that somewhere between 50 and 95 percent of the comments on this forum are about as informed and accurate as was Madame Curie. And she was one of the great scientists of all time.

                    To summarize: Go study some history AND some science and don't be a pompous donkey. A little balance AND understanding go a long way. Ha. I'll probably get flamed for pointing towards truth and logic.... Such is life. (Unless you decide to do the suicide thing.)
                    There is a reason why science has been successful and technology is widespread. Don't be afraid to do the math and apply the laws of physics.

                      The only "pompous donkey" here is the one using such words. The words we choose to communicate with others reflect the respect we have for ourselves. As for the suicide note, a sense of humor is always good.

                      Thank you for pointing out the Madame Curie.

                      Back to heart of the discussion.

                      The bulbs within the energized field are lit, pls everyone REMEMBER, bulbs don't have switch, coils, etc.....

                      Back to the question, if we do have large Tesla centers all around the city, meaning the city is fully energized. How can you turn the bulbs?

                      The Faraday cage might be the answer.

                        A crystal radio has a few components put together to en tune to the radio waves, but, a bulb is similar and not.

                        Yes, a switch of some kind to resist the scalar waves or maybe to enhance like a radio?

                          I think if we actually had Tesla coils all around a city we would have a lot more serious problems than turning off the lights. If you have ever run a Tesla coil of any size at all you would realize they produce a large amount of radio interference. With Tesla coils all around the city our cell phones wouldn't work (which might not be such a bad thing) and most emergency communications would have serious problems. Our police and fire protection could be seriously hampered and radio and TV station reception would also be a problem (which again might not be such a bad thing either). Even computer systems close to one of the Tesla coils would probably have serious problems. I have stopped my USB mouse from working just be playing around with the 3BGS system which doesn't even use high voltage. It is an interesting rhetorical question but not very realistic.

                            I suppose the Tesla coils can transmit waves necessary for cell phone, radio, tv, and emergency communications etc..... a new world system, which is far fetched.
