We all know flax is much healthier than corn (omega-3) as feed and are aware of the many problems associated with the corn-to-ethanol campaign. But is there a counter-argument here? Is there an even better source of efficient, clean, agriculturally sustainable form of bio-diesel?
Until now I've been vehemently against GM foods (bio-engineering), but here's an area where it could make something like flax, algae, or other plant life competitive with regular diesel when you factor in the economics of large-scale, sustainable agriculture. Actually, small organic farming is now proving more profitable than the large-scale, high-risk, petroleum biproduct-dependent model for a myriad of reasons.
Maybe I'm just dreaming, but if every flat roof top was covered with some sort of small plant life producing bio-diesel photosynthetically, it would....
