    Ha! I watched it again and you are right it didn't shift just flipped!

    Oh well its late, can I use that one?!

      As well notice how at the left we have one polarity, at the center no polarity and on the right an opposite polarity indicated by the hall probe just like a real magnet because it is one in this case. The point of no polarity is called the neutral center and is found in every magnet and every magnetic field. This is the singular point where one field diverges into two opposite polarities however we should understand the field in itself is two manifestations of one thing... magnetism.

      Well, I am not so sure about the method used here by JLN to measure this but nonetheless there is a delay in magnetization propagation inside ferromagnetic cores and Tesla used it wisely

      Thanks for the link to the motor patent.

        I believe what is happening in the video is easy to explain, if we place an energized coil around an iron core the core has the same polarity as the coil, they are one. If we place an energized coil near an iron core the coil induces another magnetic field of opposite polarity in the core through magnetic induction, they are two. One applied field in the coil and one induced field in the core.

        It is not so much the method nor what JLN is measuring as the measure is correct however it is not what he believes it is. As well I would agree there is always a delay in magnetization propagation otherwise the field would have to be considered instantaneous. It may appear to manifest instantly on a small scale however on larger scales or smaller time frames it can appear very slow. Such is the quagmire of relativity and perspective however we should understand that how we see something does not change it's energy state, it is what it is as it always was.

          @Level

          In regards to things like what is electric current, and what is an atom, or what is an electron, and what is magnetism, etc., again this has nothing much to do with Lenz's Law, which is just a description of how an inductor behaves based on careful experimental observation. We can confirm that Lenz's Law is valid because the operation of solenoids and transformers and electric motors and electric generators all confirm what Lenz observed, and we can also conduct very basic experiments with inductors and observe that what Lenz has described is confirmed by experiment.
          I would have to disagree for many reasons on various levels, generally speaking ignoring all of the fundamental causes of an effect such as Lenz Law is not condusive to understanding nor good science. As well the logic here reminds me of Mark Twains thoughts on modern science.

          In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Lower Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles. That is an average of a trifle over one mile and a third per year. Therefore, any calm person, who is not blind or idiotic, can see that in the Old Oölitic Silurian Period, just a million years ago next November, the Lower Mississippi River was upwards of one million three hundred thousand miles long, and stuck out over the Gulf of Mexico like a fishing rod. And by the same token any person can see that seven hundred and forty-two years from now the Lower Mississippi will be only a mile and three quarters long, and Cairo and New Orleans will have joined their streets together, and be plodding comfortably along under a single mayor and a mutual board of aldermen. There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.
          I guess I'm a bit of a sceptic, not to be confused with the pseudoskeptic who it sceptical of everything except their own opinion of things. In fact I'm quite sure I will be completely wrong about things I haven't even thought of yet.

          The problem I see here is one we have seen throughout our history when people say this is a law or this is the way it is and then 50 years down the road "this" isn't the way it is anymore. People keep on saying there can be no change, all is understood, there is no need to question anything or think about anything ... and then something does change. It should come as no surprise that the people who do question everything as a true sceptic should tend to win a Nobel prize for invoking change.

          I'm not saying your wrong however there is no proof you are right as our future has yet to be written.

          Regards
