Really? Then, did you simply choose solar for environmental reasons? I mean, in the long run, will having installed solar cost you as much, the same, or less than not doing simply paying utility bills? Admittedly, rural dwellers will want to consider the cost of running power lines to their homestead, but given your grid-tie in, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Why do you think there's so much research in solar? For many jurisdictions, it's simple economics and there are financial incentives in place to encourage solar. As I've reported, the solar industry is seeing 20% growth per year and not just because its green. Solar's now a fifth of the price it was five years ago and all indicators point to continual price drops and efficiency increases... that is unless you subscribe to the SAFE (Suppressed Alien & Free Energy) theory.

Obviously that rhetoric has largely backfired.

It depends on what you consider "suppression". Is hiding it in plain sight suppression (making sure few hear about the greatly lower cost, or that it is largest growth industry on the planet)?

Regarding making money from it, it is correct that it all has to do with the laws in place at the location. For instance, i personally know 2 people in Bavaria near Munich who make a profit from their solar PV, by sell-back to the utility during the day (they've been doing it for at least 7 years and paid back the cost long ago).

And Germany is the "cloudiest country in Europe". Yet it produces over 41 gigawatts of clean and safe alternative energy (about 20 of it from solar PV ).

They happen to benefit from good incentives for homeowners and small business, and decent buy-back rates from the utilities (about half of the total PV generated is from them, the rest being large installations). This has actually worked to drop utility power prices for everyone, instead of their bogus claims of increasing it.

Unfortunately that is something we are not likely to see here any time soon, especially since the corporate-owned mainstream media refuses to acknowledge the great growth in solar and only talks about red herring nonsense like "solyndria" .

Ever wonder why the corporate private power utility, a monopoly, is the biggest advertiser in many mass media outlets? They don't even have competition lol... But being the top customer of a TV station does tend to get negative stories suppressed

No we chose solar because the price of power keeps rising in 25 % increments
and there is no way of knowing how much power will cost in 12 months time.

So any projected calculations are phooey.

If power gets to 10 dollars a Kw then if we produce more than we use then it
shouldn't affect us even if they pay us only 0.10 cents per Kw.

As power goes up in price the benefits of having a solar system become more.

Einstein, How much will power cost per Unit/Kw in 2016 ? When you can tell
me that we can do some projected calculations.

More to the point how much will it cost at all times up until 2033 ?
To work it out properly we'll need to know the date the increases will happen
and how much they will be.

Do you expect the price of power to go down ?

Here's another question. Do you have a multi Kw solar installation ?

Jib, looking to the past to see how people have made money from solar
installations does not necessarily ensure it can be done in the future.

        Cheers

P.S. Einstein, so you think my rhetoric about Solar systems not needing to
pay for themselves has backfired. Maybe in your mind. But you only decide for
        yourself.
