  • Tuning SJR 3.0 to work with larger batteries

    Hi all,

I've been monkeying around with the SJR 3.0 (super joule ringer) that originated from Laserhacker.com for a few months. The transistor runs cool on the circuit using small milliamp batteries but once I try to power several lights on a larger battery - for instance a 12v or two 6v golf cart batteries in series, the transistor and heat sink both get extremely hot.

I've observed that the larger the battery, the more amps the circuit pulls. What can I do to eliminate the heating that's occurring? I wound the transformer just as he instructed but still seeing problems scaling this circuit up to be used on a larger battery bank.

    Thanks.
