Laminated motor cores

Hi Folks, just a question ,Has anybody tried separating the layers of an armature core, and reassembling so they are offset by a few degree's?

I separated an entire core , when placing a single layer in the field of the can ,and rotating it ,there is a drag ,then a release. Not just a release but, a push away.

Just wondering if anybody has built a staggered core?
Seems the staggered core should reduce the grabbing of the PMs' inside the can?
