  • DIY 1000 watt wind turbine

The author of this tutorial calls this a 1,000 watt wind turbine, to be fabricated totally from scratch. Although he claims to have used one of these for several years to help charge his battery bank at home, I find it strange that he offers no real numbers as to it's output.

Has anyone actually built one of these? And tested it's output in the real world?

If not, based on knowledge/experience does anyone care to hazard a guess as to some real-world numbers for this thing? Like minimum wind speed to generate current, how many amps at xmph, actual kwh production, etc?

    Also, here is a video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9EEHFKEckM

Is it worth the trouble to build one of these? Does it have merit?

Also, I notice in the video, when they spin the prop by hand, it sure sounds noisy/rickety, but I have no idea why. I only can guess it will sound worse on a windy day. Any guesses as to why it sounds so noisy?

    spoon feed ya

    Hi Greg,

The 1000 watt windmill you reference, is the EXACT same as a 10 foot diameter axial flux windmill explained in much greater detail from the same site I sent you to in your other thread.

The Bottom Line About Wind Turbines | Otherpower
Gives you calculations for available power in the wind, "Like minimum wind speed to generate current, how many amps at xmph, actual kwh production, etc?"
    etc. etc. etc. etc.......

Did you even bother to read through the site like I sugested? VERY detailed plans pages for 7 ft, 10 ft , 17 ft, and 20 ft windmills are available in the menus to the left.

The sound from the sloppily constructed machine in the video is most likely from the magnet rotors hiting the stator as it turns because of not being adjusted properly and from being out of balance (you can see it wobbling around as it turns).

And yes, I have built these windmills. Yes this same size, Yes I have run them for years. And NO I will not spoon feed you anymore.

      No reason to be irritated...

Ken, I appreciate your input once again, but there is no reason to get bent out of shape. I have spent several hours online reading/researching on various sites since that first post yesterday. Yes, I took a look at the otherpower site, and I was already aware of it's existence, but understand that I already had several links to explore, so the link you provided got added to the list, and I have not got to it yet. I was already reading about that DIY 1000 watt turbine, but got frustrated in my search for some evidence of it's output.

Yes, I can see there is a wealth of information at the otherpower site, and it will take some time to tackle. Also, the reason I asked about books is that I do like to have something meatty that I can carry around with me and read at will without being tied to my PC, and without having to print a ton of crap out.

If you're irritated, from now on when I post a question, just leave it alone...
