  • Thermoelectric Generator

Ok a few specifics... A few buddies and I built a cabin for our senior project. Mostly out of recycled materials and things people had that were either left over from a project or didnt have a need for anymore. So as you can imagine little money is involved. We use a generator for power when we need it and wood burner for heat. The problem is at night even with the cabin being 20x25 when the wood burner banked off for the night it gets unbearably hot. Sleeping with the windows open helps some(average temp is 85). Up in the loft is almost 95 degrees. With the generator on there is a ceiling fan that circulates enough air to keep the temp about the same upstairs. So its not bad up in the loft. We dont run the generator all night as its a waste. So I want to come up with a thermoelectric generator enough to run 2 small sized fans. Im planning of running duct work from the peak of the loft down to the main floor to help circulate air around some. Now I know some of you are thinking well why dont you run a solar power or backup battery pack. Yes that is possible but being college students we want to stay as cheap as possible plus thats no fun as you cant say you built it.

I have a few questions since im totally new to this. I've read and watched some videos on how to make them but they never really explain everything. I see some guys use water to cool it but that isnt what I want to do. I want to be able to run a few fans say 4 computer fans. Tho that might not be enough cfm so I might have to move up to a vehicle fan. 1 of them would be enough so at most thats what I would be running. What should I know about tackling this? Any websites or info for places to buy all the materials? Any help is greatly appreciated

An effiecient candle flame driving peltier would be a thermos shaped to hold peltier and heat inside while efficiently cooling the opposite side with ambient cool from outside the thermos.

The candle driven terracotta flower pot heater localizes heat the shapes and materials for peltier are usually aluminum and thermos are either glass or stainless.

        Hi RidgeReaper,

If you make a opening in the roof for a flap that you can open and close at will when it is hot to let some heat exit. That can be done with recycled plywood and two hinges and it can be built to keep the water out during a rain shower.

        Take care and good luck,
