It will be a disaster if the battery runs out before the "Black box" is found and the task becomes almost unachievable in the depths of the south Indian ocean.
The battery appears stone age.
Could the casing (which must survive crashing, burning, crushing) be designed to provide an electrolytic reaction with seawater and thereby a massively longer life for the circuit which sends out the pings?
